Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Visited this place and part of my day trip from Prague to Pilsen. The town square was a little quiet as it was on Dec27

Took the flight of stairs to the top of the cathedral to enjoy unobstructed views of the city.
The steps to climb up are steep but the view at the top will be worth the effort

St Bartholomew’s is most impressive from the outside (you can pay a small fee to climb to the top). The Christmas market here featured a blacksmith, and a mini petting zoo with pony/donkey/goats, as well as the usual food/drinks/souvenirs/ornaments/gingerbread. Some of the vendors are more friendly/welcoming than others.

In the middle of the town square across from city hall is St. Bartholomew's. You cannot miss it because it is the tallest church in the whole country. You are allowed to walk into the church and look past through a gate at the pews, stained glass, paintings and alter. It is attractive but I wanted to get closer to the artwork.
Directly to the left of the church entrance is the entrance to the tower. The first part of the ascent is up a stone spiral staircase. You take that up about three stories where there is a booth where you pay the 30 Korunas entry fee. There are also some old postcards for sale and some odd artwork on the walls. This is where the adventure really starts as you start walking up the old wooden staircase. After about 8 stories, you continue on much steeper and narrower steps. I needed to stop a couple of times to catch my breath since there were more than 250 steps! When you get to the church bells, you are almost to the top. Finally there is a room and outdoor walk-around view. The view is worth the climbing as you see for miles in every direction including other churchs and the huge synagogue, the spawling Pilsner Urquell and Skoda factories and the endless about of "soviet", concrete houses in the suburbs. I enjoyed it.

Splendid building in the main square. Be sure to find the angel! Closed for renovations but worth admiring from the outside and climbing the tower for the view!

The Cathedral is now under reconstruction so we only saw it from outside. Dogs were not allowed on the look out tower but I am sure the view from there is amazing, as the whole square is beautiful!

This magnificent cathedral lies in the heart of Plzen, on the Square of the Republic. It represents the best legacy of the European Gothic architecture. Have some time and climb up to the tower!

At the moment (Jan, Feb 2019) the church is closed due to reconstruction work. Patience, please, it will be opened in 2020.

St. Bartholomew's Cathedral's construction started sometimes after 1342. Its tower is 102.26 m high and is the highest church tower in the Czech Republic . It's OK to walk around, we found the church shut.
