Every country has its symbols and legends and the Czech ones include Pilsner Urquell lager which has been brewed in a town called Plzen (Pilsen) since 1842. Since then the fame of Pilsner Urquell beer has spread around the world and, inspired by this exceptional brew, more than two-thirds of the beers produced today are commonly known as pils, pilsner or pilsener. The Pilsner Urquell brewery is a unique industrial heritage site which holds the status of Anchor Point of the European Route of Industrial Heritage (ERIH). The brewery tour showcases all of the authentic places where Pilsner Urquell lager has been brewed for more than 170 years, and where its story continues today. You will see the heart of the brewery - both the historical and contemporary brewhouse. You will smell and taste the raw materials that are used to brew Pilsner Urquell, and the panoramic cinema will take you through the brewing process. And at the end you will taste unfiltered Pilsner Urquell beer tapped straight from oak lager barrels in the historic brewery cellars. The brewery is open year-round. The journey from Prague takes about one-and-a-half hours and you can either travel on your own by car, bus or train.

History of czech beer

The Pilsner Urquell restaurant with typical, delicious czech food. Great place, great tastes, super great beer! Unforgottable.

A must-visit pilgrimage for beer lovers. The brewery tour is well worth the time, even for those who fully know and understand the brewing process. It includes a tour of the extensive cellars where beer can be tasted right from the barrel. A meal at the on-site restaurant will finish the day off.

Must see! It was quite interesting to learn about the history of the brewery and the town itself and more so with the intricacies in the production of beer! Respect! The whole tour was fun especially the beer tasting (of course) at the cellars. Would definitely recommend.

While I usually stick with Chardonnay, my husband is an absolute “beer nut” to the extent that he is a proud card carrying member of Brewery Collectibles Club of America (actually some of the older cans he has are worth a significant amount). He is also a true connoisseur of the product and as a result he arranged our day... More

A nice day trip in Pilsen Brewery. We had a tour on plant and also in caves to see how the beer is made. The food from the restaurnat was also very good.

The brewery is easy to find lots of signs and the large gates are unmissable. We had pre-booked our tour because we wanted the early one, arriving half hour before the tour we took the time to have our names engraved in Pilsner Urquell glass and have have a little look around the visitors centre. Tour time our guide introduced... More

Our tour was done in English by Ondra, and he did an amazing job. Very easy to understand and a great tour guide. I would recommend this tour to anyone who has an appreciation for beer history. It is simply mind boggling the effort they went to make beer all those years ago in Pislen, including in war times. Plus... More

Didn't end up taking the tour as we arrived to late in the day, but wandering around the large brewery is certainly unique. Eating at the brewery restaurant was a disappointment though. Ordered the wild boar shoulder with rosehip sauce and roast pork cubes, cabbage and dumplings. Was brought out within five minutes of ordering and the restaurant was not... More

The tour is an hour and a half and you get great insight into the past and current brewing. Exhibits are very professional and the tour is a great deal of fun.
