Your experience in Prague will never be complete if you do not see it from the top. Hillsides, stretched from the west to the north, provide spectacular views of greenish copper cupolas, narrow cobblestone streets, bridges connecting both river banks and green gardens from red-roof tops of centuries-old houses. Prague pulls you into its 1300 year old history. Walking up the hill or stairs to Prague Castle, the historical seat of Czech rulers and the majestic Saint Vitus Cathedral can leave you speechless (and out of breath). Luckily, plenty of terrace cafés overlooking gardens and beautiful parks are available to provide rest and a place to catch your breath again.

The entrance to Prague Castle is impressively imposing, with its wrestling titans atop the gates.
The guards stand stock still as hundreds of tourist pass them daily. Past this gate is the entrance to the inner castle, which again is an impressive piece of stonework.

If you visit the castle, be sure to notice these pieces of stonework.

With wrestling titans on the tops of the gates, its and imposing entrance to the castle. Its one of the first things you see from the square when walking up to the castle.
Make sure you're there at midday for the changing of the guards a that is a good spectacle that takes place there. The gate area is closed when the changing of the guards takes place as well.

Up,out and about on a beautiful April morning, my twin brother and I headed to Prague Castle, heading into the castle complex we passed Matyasova Brana ( Mathias Gate ),the beautiful set of gates that bring you from the First Courtyard Of Prague into the Second Courtyard Of Prague, the gates date from 1614 and were constructed under the guidance of Mathias ,Holy Romn Emperor, the gates look amzing ,the statue's atop the gates are known as The Wrestling Titans ,they are the gates from which the changing of the guards takes place, if you're in the castle complex it's a set of gates to most definitely check out.

My twin brother Stephen and I were visiting the wonderful Christmas market in Prague Castle and we passed through this impressive and imposing gate.
Matyasova Brana ( Matthias Gate ) looks amazing ,a superb piece of stonework ,erected in 1614 by Matthias ,Holy Roman Empire ,this gateway brings you from 1st courtyard to the 2nd courtyard ,it's a very photogenic gateway ,now I'm a little confused ,I always thought Matyasova Brana was the stone gate and not the iron gates as some people seem to think ,not sure if I'm correct or the other reviewers are correct ,either way ,it's a wonderful gate to check out if you're planning on visiting Prague Castle or in Hradcany ( Castle District ) .

The old gate to the castle is very impressive. Much of the castle looks reworked and newer but the gate looks old and impressive. Very cool.

Matthias Gate is the gate between the first and second courtyards of Prague Castle in Prague. They were built by the Holy Roman Emperor Matthias (1557 - 1619) in 1614.
