Your experience in Prague will never be complete if you do not see it from the top. Hillsides, stretched from the west to the north, provide spectacular views of greenish copper cupolas, narrow cobblestone streets, bridges connecting both river banks and green gardens from red-roof tops of centuries-old houses. Prague pulls you into its 1300 year old history. Walking up the hill or stairs to Prague Castle, the historical seat of Czech rulers and the majestic Saint Vitus Cathedral can leave you speechless (and out of breath). Luckily, plenty of terrace cafés overlooking gardens and beautiful parks are available to provide rest and a place to catch your breath again.

First of all, it was quite a climb to get there, but is worth the effort.
The square is surrounded by the famous Prague Castle, but also by several other palaces (Svbhwarzenbergsky, Saxe-Louenbourg. Toskansky, Martinicky and Archbishop), the National Gallery and the Fortna Convent.
Sounds like there is a lot to do, but apart from the waiting line for Castle entrance, the square is not very lively.

Worthwhile spot to stand in line for the security check to the castle. When waiting with companions it's good to step out of the line and browse the sights, like an ornate gas lamp post, a pretty monument and the ornate facades of surrounding buildings. There is also a cool spot near the Gate of the Giants (check those out too!) to have a chill and admire the view of Mala Strana.

Hradcanske Namesti is a wonderful starting point to explore the Hradcany district.
My twin brother Stephen and I had been wandering around this great district of Prague, we had jumped tram number 22 from Malostranske Namesti upto the Strahov Monastery complex were we had marvelled at the churches and monastic buildings in this area,we had walked along the beautiful streets heading over to the castle area which are beautiful, so much to see and take in ,we eventually arrived on Hradcanske Namesti and one of the first structures that catches the eye is the beautiful Schwarzenberg palace with its amazing Sgraffito exterior,a true work of art ,the square was absolutely packed but with the great weather we had in March in Prague hardly surprising that the crowds were out in force.
I love grand architecture and in the middle of this square you are surrounded by amazing buildings and sites including Toskansky Palace,Kostel Sv Benedikta,Martinicky Palace,Archbishop Palace with the stunning castle complex as a wonderful backdrop,an unbelievably beautiful square with outstandingly beautiful architecture and views.
If your planning a holiday to Prague most definitely well worth checking out.

Hradcanske Namesti is the beautiful square up in the Castle District ( Hradcany ) that brings you into the Castle and Cathedral.
On this square you can view some of the most stunning palace buildings in this city including Sternberg Palace, Archbishops Palace and Martinicky Palace, there's also some great statues here including one in honour of Tomas Garrigue Masaryk plus two splendid looking Marian Column's, its busy every day on this square as this area is a major tourist destination, if you're planning a holiday to Prague its most definitely well worth checking out.

The guards change every hour on the hour but noon everyday was the changing of the guards completely. The people pack the whole area to see what is going on. There is also a tour as well.

Hratchanskaya Square - one of the central squares of Prague, is located in the historical center. There is an observation deck on it, and it is adjacent to Prague Castle.
