My husband and I had visited Prague about ten years ago and at the time we used the Eyewitness Travel books to acquaint ourselves with Prague and also to form our own self-guided tours. We believed we had gained an appreciation for the city and its history. On a recent return trip we decided to enhance our knowledge and arranged... More

We came to Marketa late in the organizing of our tour. She was fully booked for the week and offered to fit us in with one of her colleagues. When the colleague fell ill at the last moment, Marketa was able to arrange another one. There is no way Caput Regni will let you down! Our guide was just fantastic.... More

European cities are a mix of historical and modern. With Prague it is more historical than modern with so many original buildings still standing. A first time visitor is overwhelmed with all the sights and it is difficult to walk and read a guide book, esp with the cobble stone streets and sidewalks. So finding someone that can take you... We traveled to Prague before our Viking River Tour and spent two days seeing Prague on a walking and driving tour. Our travel guide Marketa spent 6 hours each day sharing her amazing city. She explained the historical background along with insight to life in Prague in the medieval times, communist era and Prague today. We contacted her prior to... More

Dear Sandy, Thank you very much for your very nice feedback! It was great meeting you and your group of friends in Prague. I think it helped a lot to use a private van to move us from one place to the other more effectively. As a result of that we had also a chance to discover off-the-beaten path sights... More

I had an opportunity to attend a work conference in Prague with my husband in early September. We wanted to maximize our time there by seeing as much of the city and some of the surrounding area before I would be in all day meetings. We wanted to find a guide who would show us the sights as well as... More

Staying in Mala Strana (Little Quarter)

Neighbourhood Profile
Mala Strana (Little Quarter)
Malá Strana is one of the oldest and the most beautiful neighbourhoods in the city. Nestled underneath Prague Castle it was once a part of the Kings route taken by future kings on their way to coronation - originating in the Old Town, crossing Charles Bridge and leading to Saint Vitus Cathedral. Cobblestone streets are lined with picturesque medieval houses, remarkable palaces, churches, kitsch shops and restaurants. Do not hesitate to turn a corner into any narrow street. You will suddenly find yourself in a calm and charming neighbourhood full of hidden gardens, parks with peacocks, fruit trees and ponds. As the neighbourhood is a home to Czech Parliament and many ministries, you can also run into well-dressed officials. If you are thirsty or hungry, it is the right place to be. Restaurants offer delicious traditional food and of course, the best Czech beers.
