The crypt museum is thoughtful presented and offers real insight into Operation Anthropoid and the deaths of those involved. Being in the crypt itself is very moving when one considers what took place. Very much worth a visit and there were few other visitors when I visited.

We first heard about this church through the history of the Heydrich assassination during WW2. The crypt of this church was the hiding location of the Czech soldiers who conducted the assassination. We watched one of the movies re-enacting this story, and it was very cool to get to visit the crypt where this key moment in Czech history took... More

Until I saw the recent film Anthropoid I had no idea of the involvement of Prague in WW2. This exhibition is very informative and as it is located in where these terrible events took place it brings you within touching distance of this piece of history. My children (young adults) hadn’t seen the film but were engaged by the story.... More

One of the saddest places I've visited, but so important to bear witness to the atrocities of our past.... In May 1942, two Czech paratroopers were sent from London to assassinate Reinhard Heydrich, the"butcher of Prague". Following the assassination attempt the paratroopers and a group of partisans who assisted in the plot, hid in the crypt of the Orthodox Church... More

This is the only orthodox cathedral in the center of Prague (given to the community in 1933). Original bldg was erected in the 18 century. Cyril and Methodius were Bulgarian monks who invented Russian (Cyrillic) alphabet -that's why the church was sanctified after them. At present there is a small museum dedicated to Czech resistance during German occupation and in... More

It is actually impressive the effect of this place, with the dramatic history of the paratroopers who sacrified their lives against the Reich

St Cyril's church, the scene of the sad WW2 drama. Was well worth a visit. Free access to the crypt and we even were able to visit the church for a carol concert.

Staying in Nove Mesto (New Town)

Neighbourhood Profile
Nove Mesto (New Town)
Nearly 700 hundred metres long, Wenceslas Square represents the most frequent and buzzing crossroads of the city. The National Museum in the upper part of the square watches over your spending spree in countless shops and retail stores lining the entire square, which ends at Na Příkopě, the most famous shopping street. When tired or broke, you can explore the city's underpasses, which can take you to the Old Town or to the courtyards of art nouveau houses with secret gems of greenery, white benches and rose bushes that provide unexpected peace in the midst of the city. Be sure to pay a visit to the traditional cafés, classic Czech pubs, cinemas and theatres. National Theatre near the river has a lot to offer to foreigners. Go to the river bank and enjoy live music and drinks while watching a sunset behind Prague Castle.
