About
The Cimrman Theater celebrates its 50th season in 2016. Now you have the unique opportunity to experience his work in English. Many Czechs consider his plays untranslatable but our productions prove all the nay sayers wrong. Despite the fact that Jára Cimrman is a fictitious character, in 2005 a majority of Czechs named him the Greatest Czech in a nation-wide poll. Our performances take place in the Cimrman Theater with the original set and costumes. The cast is composed exclusively of professional, native-English speaking actors. Like Monty Python is for English-speakers, any Czech can quote Jára Cirman, so learn some of his catch phrases too!

Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Super funny and entertaining shows. Have been to 3 different English versions and enjoyed all of them. Look forward to them adding more shows in the future!

I'm a Czech and know the original almost by heart, so I was curious how the translation works. It was great!!! They've found an adequate equivalent for almost every joke, both the script and the actors were excellent. I went to see The Act and would love to see some of the other plays as well.

So funny! This is an authentic Czech experience. The plays are phenomenal and the part of town where the theatre is located is much more authentic than the tourism districts. This is a must-see part of your trip to Prague!

Wonderful translation and acting of Czech comedies that are a great way to get to know Czech humour and spirit! The Czech Monty Python, I was told, and it's not far off!

I’ve now seen Cimrman plays in both Czech and English and I was having great time regardless to the language. Recommended for English tourists in Prague and for whoever likes Jára Cimrman. To people with average English I advise seeing the same play in Czech first.

The company has done a great job translating famous Czech plays of Divadlo Járy Cimrmana. It works surprisingly well in English. And the actors are fantastic. Great job. Great fun. Must see when you visit Prague.

I have been twice to this theatre and thoroughly enjoyed both visits. The 4 plays so far translated into English 'by Cimrman' are all very funny, although I recommend 'The Stand In' & 'Conquest of the North Pole' as the best.
To fully appreciate the humour I'd suggest finding out about one of the most famous Czechs ever 'Jára Cimrman' in Wikipedia before going, to really appreciate the layers of Czech humour in the plays.

There is a nice little bar at the venue & the venue itself is very quaint. Tip- it can be a bit warm in the auditorium so wear layers.
Can't wait to go again and will be very sad when I have seen all the English translations.
