The most well known spot in Prague and always worth a visit. Lovely area with great architecture surrounding the square and, of course, the astronomical clock. A number of restaurants and cafes surround the square (quite touristy) but others more local in the streets nearby. Need to understand the history of the country to appreciate some of the sights in... More

One of our first stops was the Old Town Square. You can't take enough photos! It is apparent that it is a huge tourist and local attraction. There are many cafes, and it is easy walking through the area.

Admittedly part of the allure of the square during my visit was the Christmas Festival. Absolutely charming! Lots of vendors selling Czech products and food. Evening entertainment on the large stage and a 40' Christmas tree complete with evening light show. The buildings around the square are architecturally beautiful. The square has many permanent tourist shops and dining opportunities as... More

Having been to Vienna the previous year, this Christmas market did not appeal to me at all. it is poor, a couple of sausages, a stall with ginger bread and other stalls with meat. Being a vegetarian, it was even worse. At least in Vienna you had so much sweets to choose from and the mulled wine was served in... More

Def should visit! It has vendors for food and shouldn't be missed. I tried the ham,hot wine, trdelnik(dessert) and walked around during day and night time. The clock was as beautiful as the pictures others has posted and should stop by before hour strikes to see a "mini show". And this place is very accessible by bus as that was the... More

This lovely town square is charming with its combination of several architectural styles any time really. But it has a special appeal starting 4 weeks prior Christmas. The large Christmas tree is nicely lit up, there are many small stalls where one can purchase Christmas ornaments, handmade gifts, even cheap trinkets, but also hot red wine, to keep you warm... You must visit Old Town Square. The Christmas market was still in place so it was really a fun experience. There were many vendors for food and gifts. There are many restaurants and shops to visit. Lots of walking.

Although it was crowded, but this is the place you can review the old part of Prague, with the amazing Astronomical Clock. Spend time here to enjoy.

Staying in Stare Mesto (Old Town)

Neighbourhood Profile
Stare Mesto (Old Town)
One of the oldest neighbourhoods in town represents the medieval heart of Prague. It’s no surprise it is bustling with tourists every time of day. Križovnický square, overlooking Charles Bridge with Prague Castle in the background, is probably the most beautiful square in the city. Its unique historical atmosphere of gothic houses and churches, cobblestone streets and squares, and stone towers blend together with the modern era. A vast array of bars, restaurants, dance clubs, international brand shops, galleries and hotels bring life to the old city. With its charming and picturesque cobblestone streets, the nightlife and parties will surely be unforgettable.
