About
The Old Town Hall is one of the most significant monuments in the Czech Republic. It was established in 1338 as the administrative seat for Prague's Old Town. Now, it is mainly used for the ceremonial purposes of the capital city, Prague. The historical town hall consists of a set of five medieval houses, the corner of which is adorned with a historical astronomical clock, a gothic oriel window and a massive rectangular tower. The lookout gallery on the town hall tower offers the most beautiful view of Prague. A tour of the historical halls in the Old Town Hall is a unique experience. The expensively decorated rooms date from various periods and are examples of the remarkable development of the town hall complex. The guided tours in various languages are organised in hourly intervals.

The area
Address
Neighbourhood: Stare Mesto (Old Town)
One of the oldest neighbourhoods in town represents the medieval heart of Prague. It’s no surprise it is bustling with tourists every time of day. Križovnický square, overlooking Charles Bridge with Prague Castle in the background, is probably the most beautiful square in the city. Its unique historical atmosphere of gothic houses and churches, cobblestone streets and squares, and stone towers blend together with the modern era. A vast array of bars, restaurants, dance clubs, international brand shops, galleries and hotels bring life to the old city. With its charming and picturesque cobblestone streets, the nightlife and parties will surely be unforgettable.

    Best views of Prague
The highlight of our visit to the Old Town Hall was the views from the top of the Astronomical Clock. The rest of the museum did not meet our expectations. When we visited some of the rooms were closed for another event and those that were open did not provide much explanation. I was expecting to find more information about how the astronomical clock functions but the only thing that we could see was some of the figures on display. For that, it's best to be in that room at the hour to see them moving. Maybe if we took a guided tour it would have been better. We also did a guided tour of the underground vaults (the only way to visit them) and this was much more informative and provided interesting information.

An historical feature on a great building
You have to join the crowd, and it was a very large crowd for what is a short feature, and wait for the display on the hour of the mechanical features of figures appearing with the clock striking the hour. Not a wonder in this day and age but impressive for a clock first installed in 1410. The Old Town hall itself is a very impressive building. We decided against the long queue waiting to try and walk up the tower.

    Great city view
We visited the clock and went up to the tower. It’s 250 crowns/€10,- per person to go up. On top of the tower, you have a great view over the city which is lovely to see. Visiting the rooms is also included in the ticket but there are only a few rooms. One room was beautiful to see. It took us 1 hour to see everything includint going to the top.

Worth a visit especially early in day
Beautiful clock tower outside with a display every hour. While this lasts about one minute it's amazing to see the genius that was possible so long ago. The view from the top of the tower are fabulous. Although we didn't get there in time, the tickets are 50% cheaper if you buy within the first hour of the attraction opening so definitely worth getting there early.

Chime as iconic as Big Ben's
The hourly chime in Prague is totally worth the wait. While the crowds can be insane during the afternoon and evening times, make sure to come early to get a good vantage point. Regardless, you'll likely to capture videos of it in your cellphone anyways, so regardless of where you're at, you'll be surrounded by cellphones. The top of the clock shows cool figures and also they have a funny touch at the end of the chime. That was cool.

    Astronomical Clock
This was so beautiful. A clock that has been running for 600 years. Every hour on the hour the crowds would flock to the square to see the clock in action. So beautiful. The 3rd one ever built in the world but the only one still working.

Prague town hall is a fairy tale tower. I have rented airbnb apartments on the square, and it makes a stunning view when you look out your window.

In today's modern world of internet, computers, 3D movies, smartphones, Instagram, and videogames, I can see why the average low attention span and uneducated American tourist will be disappointed in Prague's Astronomical Clock. And of course the hordes of tourists surrounding you while you try to video record the entire mechanical show of each hour.

But give this old clock some credit! It dates all the way back to 1410...that really old! What we see now was completed in 1791, that's over 200 years old! Considering how bad most people are about math, engineering, and science in today's world...this is a really awesome old clock!

Visit this area we were advised to locate this from our hotel as this is a very central point as a tip be mindful as its super busy to the point you cant move. To eat in the square is very busy but if you go back a couple of streets you get better food and value

We did the inside tour on sunday, which is half price. Get there before 10am when it’s quieter there are also less people in the square. The tour was excellent and you also get to go down to the dungeons/underground houses which you only get to see on the tour.

A notorically known place. What we appreciated particularly was the underground section and the tower with it panoramatic view on the historical centre of Prague.

Stunningly beautiful area of Prague with amazing architecture. However the Astronomical clock 'performance' was enormously underwhelming given all the hype. Just my opinion of course and I know many will disagree.

Beautiful square with lots of interesting architecture surrounding it. Was told the clock would be interesting to watch on the hour but felt a bit underwhelming. Still worth visiting though!

The clock was first installed in 1410, making it the third-oldest astronomical clock in the world and the oldest clock still in operation. The medieval tower clock is located at the southern side of the Old Town Hall Tower. When the clock strikes the hour (9am to 11pm), the procession of the 12 apostles starts and ends with the golden rooster that crows!!

Fun to watch!
