About
Prague Zoological Garden is situated near the center of the Czech capital, in a unique rugged landscape on the bank of the Vltava River. It opened in 1931 and during its existence of more than 80 years it has risen to become one of the most prestigious zoos in the world. Today, it is the second most visited tourist destination in the Czech Republic, just after Prague Castle. 5,049 animals and 676 species live in Prague Zoo. You can explore 13 pavilions and 150 exhibits over 58 hectares. The kids will love the Bororo Reserve, chairlift, mini-train, observation tower, paddling pool and Children’s Zoo. The pride of the zoo is its Elephant Valley, home to a sizeable herd of Asian elephants. The Giant Salamander House, where you can see the largest amphibians in the world – the critically endangered Chinese Giant Salamanders – is extraordinary as well; and the African House with an adjacent vast meadow inhabited by herds of antelopes and giraffes is worth your attention, too.

- Γιωτα ΞPrague, Czech Republic14 contributionsFamily day outWe went to the zoo today. Easy access with metro and then bus, not far out of the centre. Very big zoo and we were amazed in how much space each animal has. There were venues with heating for thgw tropical animals. Very organised with many wc and benches to rest. In a few words we loved it. Adults about 13€ entranceVisited January 2023Travelled with familyWritten 26 January 2023
- Carolreef8 contributionsWonderful ZooWe arrived at this zoo when they opened and stayed here all day. Due to cold weather a lot of the animals were inside which gave us the chance to see them up close. Some of the restaurants were closed due to the time of year but we were still able to get food and refreshments during the day. The price was just under £20 for two adults which is very good value for how large this zoo is and how many animals you can see. We are hoping to return here.Visited February 2023Written 9 February 2023
- ColMoschin96East Midlands, United Kingdom257 contributions"Impossibly good"Well, I was not expecting that! I didn't think anything could top London zoo but this just has! Entrance 250czk, cheap, it's situated on the outskirts of Prague in a hilly area with gr8 scenery and the place is hùuuuuge. I have never seen so many large animals in one place and 5 hours after entering I think the only animals we hadn't seen were sharks and whales! You would not even get this on a a safari in Africa. My personal highlight were the polar bears, they are massive. The zoo is so well laid out and clean. A lovely river runs by the paths as well as bridges to walk on. Difficult to put into words how good this place is. Only disappointment was the chairlift (yes they also have a chairlift) was closed. Good value food options and plenty of signage, toilets etc. One of my Prague highlights, well done to all the staff!Visited February 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 14 February 2023
- Jamal17 contributionsEveryone must visit this zooI hadn’t even planned initially to go to the zoo but then read some fantastic reviews before coming and can see why. Decided to plan going to the zoo on one of our days allowing the full day and if I’m honest you could spend 2 full days at the zoo and just about see everything. The place is HUGE. We arrived just after 10am, it opens at 9am and closes at 4pm and we was walking around all day bar a lunch stop. We missed out so much as there just wasn’t enough time in the day. You have to pay for maps in cash but can get a photo of it on your phone from a QR code but I feel there should be a suggested path to follow to make sure you don’t miss things out. Can’t really say a bad word about it, was only around £8 each adult to get in, call it £10 a person and it’s a full days experience. Fantastic and the highlight of our time in Prague.Visited February 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 19 February 2023
- rosieBrighton, United Kingdom6 contributionsgreat visitamazing zoo! we arrived at 11am and didn’t leave until close! you definitely need a decent amount of time to see everything and it definitely involves a lot of walking. some enclosures were a little small which was a bit upsetting but it was amazing to see such a wide range of animals. i think it’d be easier to name the animals we didn’t see!! you can get the bus here easily from the centre of prague for about 1.50 eachVisited March 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 2 March 2023
- Anna SWirral, United Kingdom19 contributionsWell worth a visitAmazing zoo, the enclosers are well thought out, and the animals seem happy and warm, we went in cold February but all the houses were heated for the animals and visitors. There was not many visitors so our views of the animals was brilliant. I live near Chester zoo and I would say Prague zoo is on par with it, and a lot cheaper. Easy to get to, go on the redline metro, and then get a bus right outside the station which takes you directly to the zoo.Visited February 2023Written 3 March 2023
- Rey M3 contributionsBlown away!Perhaps the best zoo I've been to. Me and my partner decided to visit the zoo on our last day of holiday despite being told its not great and we were completely shocked to how amazing it was. Firstly, the ticket price was very little, so we wasn't expecting much but we soon realised how big this place was and the diverse range of animals they have. The level of care and well though-out animal enclosures was fantastic, and the specious layout of the zoo is refreshing and also allows for some amazing views. We were totally mesmerised by the indoor monkey climate, polar bears and many other animals. Me and my partner loved the fact that this zoo is very immersive and you are allowed to roam around with some of the animals, which is something you don't get much of in UK zoos. Its worth noting that there're many hills in the zoo, so make sure to bring water and some comfortable shoes.Visited February 2023Written 11 March 2023
- DylanSt Helens, United Kingdom10 contributionsA really good zooThis is a great zoo, with a number of animals and ability to roam around. We went on a cold day (it was snowing) but we still got to see a number of the animals. Many of the enclosures have indoor and outdoor sections so if the animal was not outside you could go and see it inside. We saw the elephants being looked after in their indoor accommodation and had good fun with the gorillas.Visited March 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 26 March 2023
- Madeline K4 contributionshuge zooWe had a lovely time at this zoo, it’s massive and took the whole day for us to walk around. There are lots of places to get food and lots of toilets, clear maps and signs to find your way around. The cable car was fun, and took you to the top of the zoo. Although some of the animals hadn’t been let out into their outdoor spaces you could still view them inside. Overall it was a great day!Visited April 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 5 April 2023
- Dingbat1982Midsomer Norton, United Kingdom666 contributionsAmazing zooWe travelled most of the way by tram and then walked the last 20 minutes to the zoo. There was a long queue at the main entrance but a member of staff was there advising people to walk to one of the other two entrances (north or south). We walked to the south entrance and went straight in. Family ticket price is about £30 so really reasonable and worth every penny. The zoo has so much to do, loads of different animals and play areas as well as the chair lifts (approx £5 one way). Lots of places to eat, shops and toilets. Saw the penguins being fed. Really brilliant day out, so glad we visited. Got the bus back from outside the zoo then changed to the tram. Really east travel.Visited April 2023Travelled with familyWritten 12 April 2023

The zoo itself is pretty big and a really varied selection of animals. It’s quite a big route around it and once you start it takes quite a long time to get around it and you can’t really turn back. Our overall experience wasn’t great, mainly due to the rude and grumpy staff.

One of my favorite zoo’s I have been to so far! It is an interactive zoo, which is fun for young and old. It is a quite large zoo, with a wild variety of animals which you don’t see very often in other zoo’s. I do recommend to visit in a warmer period. We visited when it was cold, so some of the animals weren’t visible.
We paid around 8 euro’s (students) for the entrance, which is a very low price, considering for what you get.

One of the best zoos I've ever seen. Regardless of the cold weather, we were able to see gorillas, giraffes, big cats from the inside... The animals are well taken care of. The garden is full of surprises, including the rock collection and nature classrooms. Worth seeing.

Really enjoyed this zoo, be warned it is absolutely massive so by the end we were flying past stuff as had already been there for 5 hours or so. It was quite cold and wet so most animals are indoors, definitely go in summer to see it at its best.

I have visited many zoo's in the past but this zoo beats them all. It is absolutely fantastic. It is very well priced, absolutely enormous and has a vast range of animals.
The enclosures are excellent giving good views and the animals look fantastic.
There are lots of toilets, places to eat and drink with very reasonable prices also.
It took us 5 hours just to get around everything as it's that big.

Another visit to this amazing zoo one of the best in the world I have been to and I have been to a lot. there is so much to see and do and it's definitely a full day out but make sure you have your walking shoes on. The weather was cold but sunny all the animals were out and visible and I can't wait to go back

Mixed feelings on this as some of the exhibits were really well done, however all of the large predators displayed signs of distressed behaviour. The polar bear in particular paced repetitively throughout the day and the gorillas just looked downright depressed. This was not what I expected from one of the top ranked zoos in the world. There were also a number of animals which were housed alone which I thought was cruel. The zoo was easy to reach via public transport & was reasonably priced, we visited on a weekday and it was fairly quiet.

Spend there 5 hours. If you plan to visit Prague Zoo, really recommend to plan there all day. And still there will be something that you missed. It’s easily accessible from the city centre by public transport. There are different cafes, so you could have lunch there. Be ready for a lot of walking, because Zoo is quite big (<10 hectares). In general we recommend to visit it, especially if you’re travelling with family.

A fabulous Zoo just a short taxi ride from the old town.
Full of brilliant animal displays. Great for all ages.
Some quite steep paths to climb though. The ski lift wasn't operational when we went mid-week.
Food was very reasonable.
Loved the Aardvarks and the polar bear in his new enclosure. It felt so lovely.

Is it possible to see the pangolins? I’m hoping to take my daughter in November all the way from the Uk because she is absolutely obsessed with them.

We went in January and people told us not to visit the zoo because it would be too cold to see the animals. But we went and we saw all the animals that were sheltered in special places, especially tropical animals were in special warm places. So i think you will be able to see the pangolins in whatever month you decide to go.

How much of the Zoo is in pavilions/enclosed areas? I want to bring my dog but I am afraid that we would miss a lot of it/have to keep leaving him tied up outside. Thank you!

Buona vacanza
