Address
Neighbourhood: Nove Mesto (New Town)
Nearly 700 hundred metres long, Wenceslas Square represents the most frequent and buzzing crossroads of the city. The National Museum in the upper part of the square watches over your spending spree in countless shops and retail stores lining the entire square, which ends at Na Příkopě, the most famous shopping street. When tired or broke, you can explore the city's underpasses, which can take you to the Old Town or to the courtyards of art nouveau houses with secret gems of greenery, white benches and rose bushes that provide unexpected peace in the midst of the city. Be sure to pay a visit to the traditional cafés, classic Czech pubs, cinemas and theatres. National Theatre near the river has a lot to offer to foreigners. Go to the river bank and enjoy live music and drinks while watching a sunset behind Prague Castle.

    interesting and enjoyable
we really enjoyed this museum, there are exhibits for everyone. i personally like history so i skipped the nature parts. we bought tickets online in advance so we didn't have to wait to get in. we only left two hours for the museum and it definitely was not enough time.

    Good value
Get there early. We chose to go on a rainy day we got there early and noticed they stop people coming in at capacity. There's a clockroom downstairs with lockets which is convenient, the lockers take a 10kck coin or there's tockens available free of charge. The building itself is stunning. The way round is a but confusing at first but there is an app you can download. There's lots to see and we spent about 2 & 1/2 hours looking round. The price is reasonable for the size of the museum and how long we spent there.

Unfriendly ticket staff and poor lighting
Large Czech museum at end of Wenceslas street. Complicated entry system. We were told by guide at the entrance to buy a certain ticket to go everywhere but then found it only gave us entry to one floor ! The ticket sellers were very unhelpful and unfriendly. When I asked to exchange my ticket for a more expensive one he just brushed me away. His manner was appalling. Lighting inside is poor and often dazzles the artwork so it is hard to view. It gives a good account of the history and struggles in the 1400's but staff are very unhelpful throughout. We did however get some very good explanations from fellow visitors. For the main museum of Prague we expected it to be free or reasonable but it is expensive for what you see.

    Beautiful Building
Beautiful building located at the top of Wenceslas Square. Inside the building is just as beautiful but the displays are not easily signposted. When we went in there were a lot of visitors and the staff were very busy. The stairs and walls are very impressive but better signposting would have been more useful. We’d hit lucky and stumbled across the Baroque and Rococo Exhibition we’d paid extra for online at the back of the ground floor first. The items were impressive, the arrows guiding you round were limited and we went off into a room on the left which was less crowded and cooler after attempting to go through the room to the right, not sure if this mattered? Some of items were badly lit. Would it damage the glass if it was lit with an led? You had to read the signage (fortunately everything was in Czech and English) to see what the engravings were as you couldn’t make them out in the dim lighting. Some of the signage was really low and you had to bend over to read them, overall poor presentation of an interesting exhibition. We then decided to climb to the top and work our way down, we went into cupola which was well worth seeing as the 360 views of the city from that high up were well worth it. Also the glass floor so you can see the ceiling of the floor below was very well designed. The Natural History section was well done however again a few arrows would have been helped do you walk up one side then down the other? This freestyle viewing would be fine if you lived here and could visit regularly as you could revisit the bits you missed but there was a lot of information and standing and reading everything to understand took up a lot of time, I was still on the first room while my partner had raced round the lot, not reading much so it will depend on how you absorb information and what you’re most interested in seeing, I would recommend the Natural History Museum in London for a better experience. There was a nice cafe in the atrium however the card reader wasn’t working and they were only taking cash, which may have explained why there weren’t more people in there, we had a Bailey’s coffee and an Austrian coffee and they were delicious and an excellent pick me up after trawling up and down the stairs. Overall well worth a visit, especially if it’s raining otherwise there are more interesting buildings and museums to see in Prague.

    Huge and confusing splendid building
I wanted to see archaeology but never found any! Fossils were well displayed but there was no geological timeframe. Early history had some interesting objects but pretty disappointing for a national museum. Fair enough, there was a lot of Czech history, but that was not interesting for this tourist. The ‘buffet’ was just a small counter with a few sandwiches and cakes and very limited seats (lots of people sat on the floor). Mobile ticket bought in advance worked on and off.

A good way to pass the time.
A brilliant way to spend half a day in Prague. Interesting for musuem buffs but also grand architecture, nice paintings and fascinating statues. It's worth taking your time to go around.

In shock about this museum. Bought tickets from the main museum from a woman who clearly wasn't interested in the customers, as instead she was talking to a coworker instead of serving us. We bought our tickets and wandered through to a big hall with elevators. No signs or anything was made clear. We wandered through to the next area we got to and it wasn't until an hour or so had passed we realized we were over the road in the new museum. So we eventually made our way back towards the original museum through the passage and an old man was stood guarding the door, we tried to get through and he put his hands out just repeating no and waving his hands at us. So we turned around and stood awfully confused. Eventually another man, who was a security guard came so we thought we would try again but this time he charged towards us very aggressively, waving his hands and shouting and basically escorted us out of the passage way back from where we came, following us until we left. I felt incredibly embarrassed and uncomfortable, as well as terribly confused about the situation and why we couldn't return that way. As we had paid 400czk and weren't able to return to the museum which we hadn't seen, yet paid for. We then decided to ask the man at the cash desk in the new museum. We over heard him explaining the old museum was now closed for the day at 1pm so tickets were half price. I was in shock! We never seen a sign when entering the old museum early that day to explain this and the woman never said anything who we bought the tickets from at around 11. So we explained to this man that we had paid full price, yet hadn't seen the old museum and only had time to make it around the new museum, so were we entitled to half our money back which he insisted no as we could return the next day but we explained we are going home tomorrow so today is our last day to see it. He didn't care and offered no help at all, saying because they are the new museum they can't sorted refund for the old museum. Which i find confusing since both museums can sell a ticket which includes entrance into both but can't organise refunds. Anyway, left without a refund, any support, bullied by workers and left disappointed. Would not return again due to lack of organization, support or advice or any form of helpfulness by anyone.

The building is beautiful and the entrance hall is pretty but thats pretty much where the fun ends. This experience reminded me a lot of a museum in Marseille which was pretty on the outside but entirely empty on the inside yet staff would send you on a goose chase running in circles to empty rooms. There’s absolutely nothing in the museum apart from busts of famous Czech(oslovaks), a white wale skeleton which was quite dull and an exhibit dedicated to Czechoslovaks who joined the RAF during WW2. The Velvet Revolution exhibit was really disappointed and a shame that it was so lacking given the historical significance of the event. There is nothing to see here at all and it was quite surprising to see the huge crowds of people queuing for the museum completely oblivious to the shenanigans that await as soon as you’re passed the gates. Avoid this place like the plague.

The visit was wonderful. Especially the natural history and the part with minerals. I recommend to visit the museum as soon as possible so you don't wait in queues at the entrance, buy the entrance ticket online and visit the dome first before the queue starts to form there too, there is a nice view of Wenceslas Square.

Fairly sure this is a scam on all accounts. Even in March 2020 there are almost no exhibits, perhaps even less than there was, judging from the other earlier reviews, in winter 2019. I went in expecting "millions of items" about Czech history, which the website in some places proclaims, but what I found was a disaster. It's essentially one amazing interior section and the rest is a maze of incoherent modern art exhibits... I actually can't quite describe how perplexed I am with this museum complex. In one room there was literally just drawings by kids stuck on a rack or something. There was literally nothing to be seen in these places. I was trying to find a medieval collection or something actually about the country's history and despite visiting the new building as well (I won't give it its proper name as it doesn't deserve it) there was just absolutely nothing save a few edgy electronic exhibits and a whale. There were almost no sign posts and no indication of where to go or what to see. The staff seemed to have trouble understanding that a museum should have artifacts inside it. I did some research afterward and it looks like the only place wort visiting for actual Czech archaeology and history is the City of Prague Museum (if I recall the name correctly). I didn't get to see that since I spent so much time trying to make a museum a museum. How stupid of me.

Genuinely one of the worst places I've ever visited. I'm not kidding. Why does this cost anything at all? For all the buildings attached to this so-called National Museum of Prague institution, there's literally just one nice/interesting place and it's the very entrance. Now that I think about, I don't think I seen a single vase, sword, helmet or anything of the sort. No items. Nothing but a scam. It's genuinely so bad I'm researching to see if I even went to the correct place.

And because I didn't know about the City of Prague Museum at the time, after this travesty of a visit I ended up going to another one related to African, Asian and American history, but it was mostly just kid exhibits and a few depressing rooms with very little in. Not sure what Prague has against museums. Too late now to go to City of Prague Museum...Oh well.

Apparently there are 15 million exhibits in there, that's every single person in Bulgaria x 2, good luck seeing them all in a day! I like museums so here's my personal opinion. The ticket is only a tenner and it allows entry to the main museum and the new museum across the road, both places are massive and so the value is astonishing. I was disappointed with the content of the museums which are more exhibits than history of the country. The building itself of the main museum is pure opulence and beautiful and the free entry to the dome gives u gr8 views over the city. We spent 4 hrs in there. 4 stars.

The old building has only just reopened after a major restoration. Whilst the building was open last year it was only for a limited number of people to see the work that had been done. Now you can view the museum as a completed venture.

There are four exhibitions running that range from interesting to good.

I can’t wait for next year when I hope there’ll be far fewer empty rooms and much more of the museum’s contents on display.

Amazing building but literally empty. Have to walk through 2 or 3 empty rooms before reaching each (small) exhibit. Lots of potential but currently a complete waste of time - plenty more to see in the city! Avoid if possible.

The Narodni Muzeum is worth a visit if you’re interested in the rich history of the country and city Prague. Huge building which looks beautiful from the outside as well as inside. A lot of rooms to walk through and stuff to learn. Great spots for pictures over looking the city at the top of the museum which must be reached by elevator.

I loved how many different sections there are in the museum, you can easily spend 3 hours there. The mobile app is very helpful, you get a navigation guide and also audio guides in english.
I also had great help from one of the ladies on the ground floor, she recommended me how to see the museum and it was very helpful!
