About
This museum tells the story of brave Czech paratroopers who killed SS-Obergrupenführer Reinhard Heydrich in the Operation Anthropoid. Jan Kubiš and Josef Gabčík escaped to this church and the crypt under the church together with five more paratroopers and 20 days later they died here in battle against 700 Nazi soldiers.

Neighbourhood: Nove Mesto (New Town)
Nearly 700 hundred metres long, Wenceslas Square represents the most frequent and buzzing crossroads of the city. The National Museum in the upper part of the square watches over your spending spree in countless shops and retail stores lining the entire square, which ends at Na Příkopě, the most famous shopping street. When tired or broke, you can explore the city's underpasses, which can take you to the Old Town or to the courtyards of art nouveau houses with secret gems of greenery, white benches and rose bushes that provide unexpected peace in the midst of the city. Be sure to pay a visit to the traditional cafés, classic Czech pubs, cinemas and theatres. National Theatre near the river has a lot to offer to foreigners. Go to the river bank and enjoy live music and drinks while watching a sunset behind Prague Castle.

- Graham JTownsville, Australia70 contributionsAn absolute Must-See in Prague. The memorial and museum are small and involve a lot of reading, but it’s absolutely worth a visit. Entry is free and it doesn’t take a lot of time, but the historical and human significance of the place is great. They’ve done a good job of creating a memorial that is poignant, informative and surprisingly tranquil in the middle of the city.Visited December 2023Travelled soloWritten 11 January 2024
- JuliaTrencin, Slovakia96 contributionsHidden gem of PraguePrague has many beautiful museums, memorials and historical buildings, but this church with its crypt is really unique. We should remember those young brave Czech and Slovak men. Spend tíme to read interessting and sad history of this place in first room. Staff is very friendly and helpful to explain some facts. The entry is free and you can take a brochure and some pictures. It is great that it is open for public. Anyone interested in this history, can also visit Lidice memorial near Prague.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 11 January 2024
- Clive BIsle of Wight, United Kingdom224 contributionsVery moving memorialWe were pleased to have visited the place where those heroes paid the ultimate price for their bravery. It is a deeply moving place and the information provided was excellent and very educational. You really do get to walk through history and feel it. There is no entry fee as of Feb 24. This is a must for anyone keen on WW2 history or Prague history in general.Visited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten 20 February 2024
- StevenNew York27 contributionsFascinatingThis is worth visiting. We stopped in front of this site at the conclusion of our WW2 and Communism tour with Real Prague Tour Guides ( definitely take that tour), and our guide gave us some history of Operation Anthropoid and suggested we go inside after the tour. Glad we did. There were interesting exhibits and the crypt itself. Please note that the crypt is behind a heavy metal door that you will need to move (it was not so obvious that you could enter the crypt, but you can).Visited April 2024Travelled on businessWritten 19 April 2024
- Quinn5 contributionsA highlight of PragueSo worth the visit, I spent a whole hour in this small memorial/museum reading everything thoroughly. It was nice to get a break from something super busy and touristy. This memorial is so well preserved, it felt haunting to be in the crypt. I did not know anything about this specific event in the war, but it really explained it well. I would recommend this to anyone visiting Prague for a few days!Visited July 2024Travelled soloWritten 17 July 2024

This memorial is located at the site of their death after a final battle with the Nazis. It is simple, well designed and free with good documentation. You can make a donation and also visit the Orthodox church of which the crypt is part because the priests and their families have also been exterminated. A stele also pays tribute to the deportees and those shot.

Small museum/memorial in the church crypt to an important but often overlooked event in the history of Naziism. A couple of blocks away from the tourist centre. Nicely and appropriately presented. English language explanations of Operation Anthropoid. No admission charge, but can get crowded when tour groups arrive.

Magnificent city of 'old Europe'. It is recommended to take walks around the city, try the typical food, see a Black Theater show, shop at a Christmas market and be at the Clock Square on the hour to see the famous astronomical contraption in motion. Very good transport with tram and metro almost everywhere. The 'but' is that there were too many tourists and in some places like the Bridge you couldn't take a step.

The memorial site is dedicated to the resistance Czech fighters that were killed by the Nazi during WW2 for their role in the assassination of Gen. R. Heydrich, the "Protectorate" of Bohemia and Moravia in Prague. Heydrich was also a major player in the forming of the "final solution" of the Jews in Europe. Visiting the basement of the church where this memorial is reminded me of the same feeling I had visiting the Arizona and the Alamo memorials. Make sure you see and read the excellent displays before you enter the crypt to fully appreciate the history and timeline leading up to the killing and capture of those involved.

We had watched Anthropoid (film with Cillian Murphy and Jamie Dornan) so were familiar with the story. To see the memorial under the church, reading the detailed history and seeing the artefacts was both informative and moving. Then to move into the crypt was chilling - a real piece of history! I would totally recommend.
The memorial is located just round the corner from the Dancing House. It doesn't cost any money but there is a donations box. For a real piece of WW2 legend i suggest you make a visit.

I expected quite a lot from this but its such a small museum I was left a bit disapointed im afraid. Only really one room to look around so it really doesnt take very long. As a bonus its free. Definitely wouldnt be a museum to pay for (as a non czech).

After you have visited the church, go down to see the crypt, where the paratroopers were hiding and died during the siege.
The front room as you enter is set up as a small museum. The entrance is free, but there is a donation box there.
To actually enter the crypt , you must push at a heavy door that closes completely behind you. Chilling and claustrophobic effect.
It's been 75 years this year since the war ended. The Nation will remember their Heroes for years to come .

How do we get there. We are staying in old town
Written 30 May 2016
Take a tram that runs south along the river and get off as close to the 'Dancing Building' as possible. The Dancing Building is on the corner with Resslova (street). Walk east (away from the river) and the church is a few minutes along on the left.

Does anyone know something about the painting in the sanctuary of the church. It is of Christ on the cross and the tour guide who took us to see it could not tell me who painted it. We were there in 2013. It was on your right as you came into the sanctuary
