There are several churches, restaurants, shopping and cafes along the road. Also on this street is Neptunes Fountain. You are drawn towards the town hall and its clock tower which does make statement with Neptunes Fountain nearby it. At this point you can notice a slight curve in the street while taking many photos. The architecture and detailed of buildings and colours used really do make them standout. The street offers so much from restaurants, cafes, bars, boutique shops and photo opportunities before heading through the beautiful Green Gate which leads you to the Motlawa river.Visited October 2023Travelled soloWritten 4 May 2024

Always loads going on here with people milling about enjoying themselves in the many bars, restaurants and shops. - Thomas VOakland, California17,503 contributionsStreet with Decorated HousesThis is where you want to spend time in town. But be prepared for crowds. Everyone comes here because the post-war restoration has created such beauty. Many highly-decorated buildings, lots of places to eat and drink. On a warm day, it is very lively. The street is wide so the crowds do fit in. Lots of guided tours about.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 30 June 2024

While in Gdańsk, it is impossible not to be on Długa Street. Well, it's a street on the royal route from the Golden Gate to the Green Gate and it's impossible to miss it. Beautifully rebuilt after being destroyed during World War II. It is worth being there in low season or when there are no crowds of tourists. Every experienced admirer knows what it means ;-) it's really worth being there! The gables of tenement houses, various architectural details are worth recommending!

Beautiful street, beautiful architecture. Kind if reminded me of Rome somehow. The gold plates on some of the building and the lights reflecting makes beautiful photos. Worth a visit and within walking distance from the Hilton where I stayed.

The old German dutch inspirered buildings are every where in this part of the city. They are highly maintained and you can pretty much walk around taking in the atmosphere without being interrupted by facers or begars like other tourist places in Europe. I highly value that. There are small supermarked where you can get cheap food or go to the waterside and dine at more fashionable restaurants.
City has a good vipe. Will be comming back for a second trip.

When you walk along this street you would never think that most of the building have been heavily bombarded in WWII. I don't know who spent huge amount of money but the result will take your breath. Simply AMAZING, BEAUTIFUL... There are 3 houses which have been restored to their pre-war glory and are on display: The Uphagen House, the Ferber House, and Lion Court. We visited Uphagen House - beautiful!
The street is full of restaurants, cafes, shops, etc. There are 2 tourist information shops on the street - one near the Green Gate , the other is opposite Town Hall. I must say they really don't help you. We wanted to go to visit famous Elblag canal but been told they give info only on Gdansk. We enjoyed also evening walk and despite we visited Gdansk in September it was full of tourists. We would like to return back.

This street is just wonderful, beautiful architecture, amazing bars and places to eat. It is of course very busy, but how could you expect otherwise given that it is such a special place. Dluga Street, generally called ‘Long Lane’ in English guides. The Dluga Street building facades along 550 meters from Green Gate to Golden Gate give the impression of walking through Poland’s ‘Amsterdam’ with its architectural style modeled on early 17th century canal houses. Do not mist Neptunes statue!

Being in Gdansk without spending some time here is like to going to vegas without playing in a casino 😉
Here all kind of restaurants, cafés and bars are spread all over the area, not only the two sides of this main street, but also in all smaller ways connected to the main street. One pf it's ends is blocked with the grand gate from the 16th century and the other side is extending to a couple of hundred meters after crossing the river. Leave half a day at least in your visit planning to enjoy walking, having coffee or even dinner in one of the places here. Afternoon and evenings are the best times to visit. ENJOY IT

Central street of Gdańsk. Dluga means Long and it is really long. It starts from the canal embankment and ends at the gates of the old town (here go to the cozy and pleasant restaurant "Rekawiczka" for drink :) ). Many historic buildings, shops and restaurants.
Crowded on weekends and evenings.

This street was the highlight of the Old Town of Gdansk and probably had one of the best entrances to all the old towns we saw in Poland with the Green Gate entrance. Sights you cannot miss are the Town Hall, Neptune's Fountain and the colourful buildings. The view east will also get some very nice pictures and it is worth your time. There are many restaurants, cafes, bars, tourist information stores and souvenir shops along this street. We spent about an hour walking through this area and could have spent more if we picked out a restaurant along this street.

Why are the houses painted in different colors? Does anyone know? Does it have a historic or symbolic meaning?
Written 21 December 2016
hi,
I am not an expert but that is what I know. The rich merchants wanted to display their wealth as creatively as possible, that is why every house had a different color. An other sign of their creativity were the roofs top. when you look carefully you will notice that every rooftop is different.
