I would wholeheartedly recommend Wild Poland for a wildlife watching experience, we saw too much to be able to list in one review!

When I booked the trip, I was pleased to be able to find a company that was not only based within Poland, but run by extremely experienced and knowledgeable Polish natives. I was pleased to be able to support a native company and know my funds would benefit the local economy too.

Tomasz, organiser and guide was simply brilliant. We went with a broad interest in large mammals, birds and botany. I never expected to learn about all that we saw, but there simply wasn't one thing I asked about, that Tomasz didn't have the answer to, even the tiniest of insects!

We saw Bison, Beavers, Pine Martens, Foxes, Deer, Cranes, Hoopoes, Warblers of every description even the very rare Aquatic Warbler. Pygmy Owls, 4 of Poland's native Woodpeckers, including the elusive White-backed Woodpecker. We heard many more including Corncrakes, Tree frogs and Golden Orioles.

The diversity of the Białowieża Forest and Marshes we visited was truly astounding and drives home just how depressingly sterile and silent the British countryside has become in the last 100 years in comparison.

We stayed in lovely, cosy little guest houses, my favourite being a wooden lodge house in the forest itself and ate very hearty, tasty Polish food.

We were out all day, every day, sometimes stopping at restaurants for lunch, other times sitting in the wilderness eating packed lunches. Tomasz was incredible at spotting the tiniest of birds and hearing distant sounds that drew us to see our prize. Including an Elk hunt at 4am (!), where despite sleepy eyes and slightly incredulous brain, Tomasz delivered again and managed to locate an Elk mother and calf, who eyed us warily for a while before slipping away into the forest. Truly magical in the morning mist.

The small group we were with were of all ages, varying nationalities and everyone we met was lovely and great fun. Within a day, it felt as if we'd known each other for years! Everyone had varying wildlife interests and we learnt a lot from the other group members too.

The wildflowers at this time of year, were another draw for us and the bounty of what we saw was fantastic and Tomasz knew any plant we couldn't identify, which was really rewarding.

We also managed to see some of the old timber churches and Polish villages, which was a nice addition too and some of the bird hunting was in the old 'English Park' laid out for the Tsars, in Białowieża village. So a bit of fascinating architectural/human history thrown in too!

The only thing I might caution, is this is not a trip for those looking for a relaxing break. The week was full-on and intense. Up early every day and out almost all of the day. If you wanted time out, you simply didn't join the group, which did mean missing a whole day of potential, as the excursions are all day events. One day we chose to do this and of course missed quite a few amazing birds, the rest of the group returning with gloating smiles and jokes about seeing 10 wolves and 15 lynx to boot!

All in all this is one of the best wildlife trips we've ever been on and the experience will stay with me for a very long time. I implore anyone who wants to see and learn more about wild Europe, to book with Wild Poland, you are in good hands and your learning will increase ten fold. It is a shame we can't leave a review on Wild Poland's own website, which I would do if i could.

It's hard to know where to start. I did the Forests and Marshes tour. Essentially I'm more of a birder than anything else, and this was a perfect trip for me.
Organisation was amazing. The accommodation was great. Good sized comfortable rooms in atmospheric properties. Great food and there was a generousity about the whole set up which makes a great difference. In particular, on our last day, we left at 9.30 for a two hour trip back to Warsaw. Most companies would have left people to their own devices, but we had a lovely farewell lunch and were dropped to hotel/ airport.
Surprisingly, bison was the least exciting part for me. Great to see Elk and beavers though.
The landscape was beautiful, with wildflowers among the crops, and cuckoos and corncrakes all around.
Tomasz was amazing at finding birdlife, often by ear. He seemed able to track things down and get them in a telescope in a flash. Even something as skittish as Firecrest was in the scope for a while.
I won't list the birds but most of my wish list of possible species were found.
Tomasz worked from dawn to dusk and a bit more. The trip, of necessity has some very early mornings. That suited me, but might not be everyone's idea of fun.
For me, it was even better than my high expectations.

We hired a guide for 3 days to show us around Białowierza, we are beyond happy with the trip.

Our guide Lukasz was very knowledgable and adaptable to design the trip to our liking, we had a great laugh and came across bisons, badgers, deer and a boar along with seeing the beautiful forest and learning about the natural habitat and local history.

A truly stunning wildlife experience with a programme organised to perfection. We've been on many wildlife holidays and tours and this was probably the best curated we've ever had. The organisation and logistics all ran smoothly and the Wild Poland team were extremely helpful, knowledgeable and personable. We learnt so much not just about the birds, mammals, amphibians, reptiles, invertebrates and flora of two wonderful areas but also geography and history that's impacted Poland over several centuries culminating in the current war in neighbouring Ukraine. With the war and conflicts with Belarus, we carefully thought about making this trip but we were delighted we made the effort. As so many Polish people said to us: "The war is in Ukraine, not in Poland". We felt safe at all times and we believe that supporting the economy of Poland, while the country and its people are providing huge help to war refugees, was an important decision which we're delighted we took.

"If you only came to see what you were looking for, you probably missed a lot". Once again, Wild Poland's slogan proved to be quite true for this extraordinary trip from 21 May to 28 May 2022. I do not regret having entrusted the organisation of this trip to this company, which provided impeccable services. The guide knows the nature of this region like the back of his hand, not only about the large animals, mammals and birds, but also about plants, butterflies, insects..... a living encyclopaedia about the ecosystem of the Bialowieza forest and the Biebrza marshes! Add to this an excellent knowledge of the animals' habits in the field and outstanding tracking skills! The result is a maximum optimisation of the chances of seeing wolves and various local birds (dwarf flycatcher, pigmy owl, locust, little crake, aquatic warbler, great snipe...............) to which we can add the kindness and sensitivity of the guide and driver, their exceptional availability, their remarkable attention to the group's wishes and a well-practised trip in very suitable accommodation conditions. I can only recommend this trip with Wild Poland, especially in this context disturbed by the current local political conditions which we did not suffer thanks to the guides. I prolonged the stay with my elder son and I could thus realize all the invaluable information acquired during this training course in order to avoid stumbling on observation or delicate situations with the police who are currently a little on edge in the area. On the other hand, this assessment seems to me to be quite cold next to the attention and the human warmth shared with the wild poland team during this stay. The group, essentially composed of Anglo-Saxons, was also very friendly. Philippe

"If you've only seen what you came to see, you probably missed out a lot." This is their motto, and is actually 100% correct. I've joined their tours with some particular goals, but discovered so much more.

I've been on two trips: spring festival in Bialowieza & Carpathian Mammals in October. Both really different and excellent.

My main goal was to see wolves & bison. But in the end I've seen much more and learned so much. For example, I learned a lot about tracking which is actually much more exciting than I expected. Seen so many birds in Bialowieza which got me much more excited than I would have guessed. And I learned a lot of small things on all the animals (mammals and birds). The walks are always a bit different and so beautiful. Bialowieza is really special because of their unique forest management. The Carpathians offer unique scenery with their nice hills mixed with meadows and forest.

The guides do really their best so you would see what you want to see. In the Carpathians we were a bit unlucky due to the weather. And we could see that our guide doubled the efforts to have more results. We've still seen quite a lot including 3 bison and a wolf that was hunting a hare ( a few meters away, but just a 2 seconds). We missed a brown bear by less than 5minutes (we met someone that saw a brown bear up close a few minutes ahead of us). So surprisingly good if you take the (unusual) bad weather in consideration. We had already enough to be happy about. And still the guide was doubling efforts so we could see more because he knew that we could have had better. And that there is more to see out there. This is a real commitment towards their clients.

They don't just walk with you. They know their locations, study the area, talk with locals (scientist) and keep track of the animals. They know where to go to increase your chances to see some mammals / birds. And I confirm it works, I've seen a lot. And when we didn't see the species we wanted, we've seen lots of tracks of their activity.

The knowledge of these guides is also impressive. I had 5 in total and they all surprised me with all the things they knew about all those animals. And they were always friendly, nice and patient. Listening to our "needs / demands" in some occasions too. They also take the time to explain about the Polish and local history and culture.

The rooms I had were always basic but nice, need nothing more for such a trip. Food was delicious! Discovered many central / east European dishes. And there was always enough.

List of things I've seen on those two trips (which I can remember, not putting all the birds here): 1x wolf, 5x bison (one 20m away!), 2x moose/elk, 2x raccoon dogs, 2x beaver, countless red and roe deer, foxes, hares, 2x pine martens, 1x stone marten, 5 kind of wood pecker, pygmy owl, really big tawny owl, kingfisher, nutcracker, hazel grouse, 2x common crane, a lot of stork, lesser spotted eagle, and many more.

To summarize, Poland has a lot to offer: beautiful scenery, good food, nice people and a lot of wildlife. Wild Poland is an excellent and trustworthy partner to go with that I would recommend to all people I know in the search of these kind of experiences.

The trips you will remember!

This is the time all travel stops. It helps to ease the pain when we recall the fond memories of past travels

Poland is one of the best destinations I love most. One of the main contributors is the Wild Poland Bison Safari Tour. Our guide Bart was very knowledgeable, not only in terms of wildlife and the Bialowieza Forest, but also in the history of Poland. He also had the special skill in imitating the chirping of woodpeckers. Our driver Patrick was a fun guy, and brought us a lot of joy in our conversations.

We had joined the 4 days 3 nights Bison Safari tour in October 2019 when the leaves started to turn yellow, and the scenery of Bialowieza Forest was at its best. This was an amazing tour. We spotted a lot of wild animals: the Bison, deer, owl, woodpecker and beavers.

We had many great walks in different parts of the Forest. Our guide Bart would bring us to various parts of the forest, so we could experience different landscapes. The protected area, though, was the most amazing part. There had never been any logging inside the protected area. The area mostly kept its primeval nature. When we stepped into it, it gave you a sense of pure magic. If some spiritual beings appeared before your very eyes, you would be less surprise here than elsewhere. To enter the protected area, we were led by another professional guide. The charming lady was so full of energy and passion that she seemed to be the most eager one to get into the area. She had a very good camera, and captured many great shots of birds.

Our group comprised of 3 couples: Jo and A.J., Heather and Geoff, and us. We felt lucky to have such good companions. During meals and our long walks, we always had some good conversations. We were interested in Poland, and Bart would tell us lots about the history of Poland and how it was like living in Poland, especially the change from Communism to Democracy.

The tour also offered excellent accommodation. We all lived in 2-storeyed wooden house. The interior was clean and cozy. It blends perfectly with the surrounding. The owner of the hotel was a kind old man. He prepared excellent meals for us, and every dinner we had different desserts. Once, he also served us the famous vodka of Poland.

At last, I wanted to tell a joke. Jo and us were living adjacent to each other on the ground floor, so when she was smoking outside her apartment, she could hear all our talking in Cantonese. One morning, she told us that last night she heard me laughing. She claimed that the laugh was so contagious that in the end she laughed with me. She made me understand that I was that happy during the trip. Now, the joke. In another morning, Jo asked Bart why he had to imitate the chirping of a woodpecker during the last evening. Bart was confused and denied. Jo, however, insisted that Bart was playing a joke on her. Later, when we were alone, my wife and I talked about the curious event. At that evening, my wife was playing the video of Bart imitating the chirping of the woodpecker. She played it again and again as we were amazed by Bart’s special skill. We believed that was the reason behind Jo’s claim. Later, we forgot to explain the reasons to them. If Bart and Jo happen to see this review, they will have one of their hardest mysteries in their lives solved. I hope that they will have a good laugh too.

All in all, it was an extremely pleasant trip. We thank Wild Poland, Bart and Patrick, and all our companions for giving us a great time.

I wish everything fine in Poland and in your excellent company Wild Poland. I hope in the future I can join your tours again.

It is one thing to view bison in a restricted environment. It is quite another dimension to know where they are located in the wild, understand their intricacies, trek them down, and get close (as close as within 80 metres of these wild beasts) and observe them. In between each of these actions, there is a lot of patience required because they are wild Polish bisons living in their natural habitat, i.e. the Bialowieza Forest National Park.

That is what we signed up for with Wild Poland and that is exactly what we got. When you get within a few metres of beasts, there is a lot of observation & studying (both between man and bison AND vice versa). That’s when you get to feel the awesome feeling of what is happening. Words cannot adequately capture the experience.

Wild Poland took care of every single detail. My family trip would not be better if not for the fantastic expertise of Andrzej Petryna. A man wise beyond his years and experience, guiding us through the treks in the open fields and the dense temperate forests. He is a gem of a guide. Keep up the great work, Andrzej.

Worth every bit of the experience.

WILD POLAND WILDLIFE TOURS (Bialowieza) - All You Need to Know BEFORE You Go
