This is a long and remarkable canal not only in Elbląg, but in big part of Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship. It has 80.5 km in length and it goes from Lake Drużno to river Drwęca. Used mainly for recreational purposes, for example it is a good place for kayaks. Plenty of locks and system of inclined planes, you should check them.

This canal cruise is a unique experience. I had read about it online prior to visiting Poland. I could never quite understand how it all worked. After our trip, I think I have a better understanding of it. What a work of engineering!
The canal traverses between lakes that are at different elevations. Instead of the usual lock system, this canal uses tracks and cables to haul the boats up the hills to the next body of water.
The day we took this trip was quite rainy. There was an outside deck, but it was quite wet. It didn't dampen the fun though.
If you are in the area, I would recommend taking this most unusual and unique ride!

IT is old canal, start working at 1860, for wood transport, but work for only half a century.
Nowadays IT is used only for tourist.
All canal is rather long (Ostróda - Elbląg is about 12 hours od sailing), but Main atraction are 5 Ramos, on which boats are sailing on the Grass. On this short are, boats are taking about 100 metres higher, that why no water lock aren't use.

Od course yuo van take a shorter sail, for 5 hours or 3 lut sail grom buczyniec via 3 Ramps.

IT is only palce on earth where duch a solutions od stilo working

The ride is very boring. Ship is moving really slowly. Unfortunately we were here during rain so it was more terrible than when it’s sunny. Only if you’re on the top of the ship it is less boring than inside but like I mentioned we were here during rain so going up was unpleasant. 3h are definitely too long. If you really have to be here take a laptop or something to do… Oh no, sorry you can’t use your laptop or even phone because there is no network. Don’t expect too much. It’s waste of money and definitely of time.

Have wanted to do this trip frim Elblag since seeing Michael Palin's programme feature many years ago and finally made it to this part of Poland.

So glad I did, as it was totally worth seeing such marvellous engineering. I even benefited from the discount they give for over-60s ( not 65 as commented elsewhere) making it a cheap day out.

In my view, it is a long 5 hours and it should be noted that it is a full 2 hours before you actually reach the first inclined plane.  This time is spent largely sailing across a lake some 2 miles wide, not a canal. Not exciting.

Once there, the 5 planes are fantastic to behold, such wonderful engineering.

At the end you only have 30 mins before the bus back. You are encouraged to visit the museum (7 Zloty)  but in 30 minutes ?!  I didn't notice anyone bother.

Definitely a trip not to miss.  I have just two criticisms:

As others have mentioned, the only commentary is in Polish and hearing 75% of passengers laughing at the jokes makes you feel left out.  I don't think it would be hard to at least produce a leaflet in other languages explaining a bit about what you are seeing.

Secondly, and this was just plain parsimonious, if you buy a coffee with milk you get one milk sachet, hardly enough to change the colour of the coffee.  When I asked for more milk the young lady just said "No, one coffee, one milk".

If you can take a flask, I'd recommend it  :-)

Beautiful boat ride in a nature. Unique in a world....must do it and experience it for itself. You will see many bird species in nature, pure harmony and calmness. Very nice and friendly staff, particularly the crew staff. You will notice that they love what they do even thought working conditions are not so good. Company who runs these tours is just making money factory and does not care neither for staff or clients. On a very hot day, they run buses ( with many senior citizens) without AC and fan, never mind bottles of water. On a boat which has a bar facility -refrigerator does not work so all the drinks are warm and choice is very limited, as well as snacks. I think for a ride over 5 hr they should provide meals and cold drinks for sale. With temperature 35 C everybody was exhausted. Luckly nobody got a heat stroke ! With little effort from the owners the boat ride would be more pleasant and unforgettable experience.

What a fantastic place to visit. Not just for aspiring engineers but something for everyone.
Downside food very hard to get as a small caravan that was closed most of the time as had run out of food or they needed a break🤔

It was an unique experience to spend 4 hours on the boat and going through such a beautiful sceneries. The whole trip is very well organised. The staff is very knowledgeable and they are definitely to meet their customers need and not only to make some money.
We had to change our boat tour twice and the second time just the day before and the customer service was excellent.
Just a hint : when you will approach the last lock ask if you can jump off the boat so you can take nice pictures of the boat being lifted from outside. The staff might say no but on our tour one guy managed to do it. There is no need to book the tour massivly in advance as the weather changes and you might need to rebook it. The tour Elblag to Buczyniec takes 4:30 hours and I would not advice this tour for small kids as it could be too boring for them. The sceneries and wildlife is incredible but not for kids.

We bought tickets on line on the web site which give us relax while arriving at the hotel very late.
We took our place on board the ship ans started the journey at Elblag tunnel.
The first half of the trip is quite nice and charming. You could watch birds, fishes, bushes and trees.
Afterwards the trip started to repeat itself. More of the same. In my opinion it is too long. Much better is to take a shorter lag and to achieve the same understanding and atmosphere.
Very good organised, all on time and fixed.

We were staying in Malbork so we day tripped over by train.
It was easy to book the boat. The tourist information office sent us to the company office.
They put us on the 5 hour trip leaving early afternoon.
Had a quick lunch and hopped on the boat just before it left.
Tip- unless it's really hot or cold sitting on top of the boat is the best spot. But there aren't enough seats for everyone. I would try and get there early and don't expect the Polish people to be polite when it comes to getting a seat.
Secondly the only food on board is ice cream. BYO.
And if you are a birder bring your binocs. The beginning of the canal goes through a fabulous wetlands.
Probably 5 hours was a bit too much
but the trip out of Elblag through the wetlands was great.
