Close to Gizycko lies the Boyen fortress. An impressive military structure which played an important part in the big battles between Russia and Germany in August 1914. Some bunkers are from the time of WW2, when this stronghold was part of a whole circle of...More

This place is also called 'Feste Boyen' and upon paying the entrance fee we were given a leaflet in Polish about the place. I asked if the leaflet was available in English, 'No' came the response. Again I asked if it was available in German...More

We walked from our hotel and then around the fortress with some side trips whenever we saw something interesting to go explore. It was a long way around. The carriage and sleigh display was nice. Also, the Polish military had a display of equipment within...More

We were unlucky in that a Fantasy Festival had taken over the fortress. Entry fee increased threefold and the historical areas were not well signposted. This place seems to be a missed opportunity to create a more interesting attraction

We made the East Prussian Castle part of our tour, and we didn't regret it. It's been well preserved and is being used for the yearly reenactment the Battle of Tannenberg in the summer of 1914. It was out good luck to have watched the...More

Really big area covered and you can explore by yourself. Kids would love it but you need to take care as some of the paths are worn and could be slippy if it was wet. We enjoyed a long hike around the perimeter and poking...More

A unique place to visit if you're in town. You can easily spend hours walking the grounds and traversing the fortress. Bring good walking shoes.

Very interesting fort, not suitable for wheelchair or issue walking but anyone else make sure to see it. You can pick from 3 paths, I picked red, very scenic!
