Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Seriously, how the hell didn't I know about this master modernist artist before - the equal if not superior of Toulouse-Lautrec. The museum dedicated to his life and work, just off the market square, is basic but quiet and very intimate, nothing grand, pretentious and overwhelming, just a simple space and Wyspianski's extraordinary paintings and other works. Only 8 PLN entrance and huge collection, easy to spend an hour there.

Last year I was lucky enough to see the exhibition of the 'Young Poland' movement, (I saw it three times) which charted the influences that formed Wyspianski and his contemporaries and showed works that displayed the themes of 'Young Poland'. At the moment (April 2015) there is an exhibition of the works of Maurice Gottlieb, but I was told that in Krakow, the city of his birth, no paintings by Wyspianski are on display. (Being restored?). There are the wonderful stained glass windows he designed in the Franciscan Curch, and also stained glass windows based on his designs can be seen in the entrance to the toursit information centre nearby the church, on the corner of Grodzka and Francziskanska.

This small museum has had a makeover and is now known as The Szolayski House (Kamienica Szolayskich). It still houses information and paintings by Wyspianski but also has the household effects of Wislawa Szymborska who is known as the grand dame of poetry, she passed away in 2012. Free on Sundays. The exhibition is now called Forever Young Poland and it's art around 1900. Upstairs is where the art is, plenty of paintings including Wyspianski's self portrait. Well worth a visit.

Stanisław Wyspiański recived his introduction to art from painter Jan Matejko who often visited the house of his aunt.
The museum displays divided into several rooms a permanent exhibition, showing work Wyspiański as one of the greatest and most versatile artists of the Young Pololand. The museum focus is on the presentation of versatility Wyspiański: painter, architect, art designer, editor, and finally, playwright and director.

A most interesting and in places interactive exhibition about the then conservative town and its innovative artists.
I don't understand why I was discouraged from using the lift, which I now need to use. I did persevere. Some of the staff are not as friendly as the ones who were there 3 years ago at my last visit.

Go see this if you are in Cracow. Not widely advertised but amazing stories and incredible art, all done by prisoners while in the camps.

A square that is overlooked in Krakow justifiably so when you consider the beauty of both Maly Rynek and Rynek Glowny is Szczepanski Square, its a square that I always look forward to visiting on any holiday I take to Krakow.
I remember a time 30 plus years ago when I first started visiting Krakow and this square was a major public transport hub, years of vehicle pollution had left the buildings in a shocking state, to be honest it was a bit of a dingy area but millions of Złoty's pumped into rejuvenating this square has left us with an amazing looking square surrounded by wonderful looking buildings ,a fountain and several great pubs, bars, cafe's and restaurants, one of my favourite buildings is Szolayski Tenement House,a great piece of architecture, the facade looks wonderful, its a very photogenic building, its home to the Wyspianski Museum I believe, its most definitely well worth checking out if you're on Szczepanski Square.

One of the prettiest square's in Krakow is Szczepanski Square ,great architecture on all sides of this square ,a building that always catches my eye is The Wyspainski Museum housed in a former palace building .
The building looks superb ,the facade is very photogenic ,it's a building that commands your attention and adds to the joy of visiting Szczepanski Square, well worth checking out if you're in the area.

The special exhibit about the possessions of Noble Laureate Wislawa Szymborska was wonderful ... a mixture of collages that she made, photographs, books, and other wonderful artifacts from her collection. There is also a wonderful gift shop. Not that far from the main square and definitely not as crowded.

The former palace now houses different exhibitions. We had a very interesting Krakow 1900 exhibition with a lot of atrifacts, painting, statues. It was really amazing.
