Although I never took in a concert on my latest visit to Krakow but I have on previous visits to this most beautiful of city's ,it's a unique experience in a unique location namely inside the Church Of St Adalbert.
The church is one of the oldest in Krakow dating from the 11th century meaning it actually predates Main Market Square ,a beautiful church building incorporating several architectural styles including Baroque,Renaissance and Gothic ,for information about when concerts are performed head to the tourist information centre ,it's most definitely well worth checking out if you're planning a trip to Krakow.

Tourist information office shared flyers stating a wrong venue so we ended up behind a closed church door. After doing a quick web search we found the correct location and had to hurry across the town and made it just in time. They don't accept cards but luckily we had exactly the amount needed to be let in. The program was easy enough. My wife's family would recognize most of them - if played with an accordion. We are no classical music experts, but I would argue that playing Vivaldi's Spring with a tempo of the Flight of the Bumblebee is not the way to show off your virtuosity. Also as the arrangements were short and often seemed to be cut off abruptly, to foremost impression was that the musicians were paid by the number of pieces played, not by the time. That impression was fortified by the fact that the musicians were out on the street faster than my wife and I although we half ran to pick up the glass of free wine promised us at a collaborating restaurant. The performance comprising of 15 works lasted 45 minutes.

We attended this performance yesterday evening. Not many people attended the concert, but this made the musicians connect more with the audience. The lead 1st Violinist was especially good, utilizing his violin to do some very cool tricks. The concert itself was very good playing some classical and film music. The setting is also nice with lots of paintings surrounding the walls.

At €15 per person, I fully recommend this and will be returning (if in Krakow again) for the second part of the program.

I've never been driven to write a review as far as I can remember, but I've also never left a concert livid before. There's a first for everything. I was fresh off of a series of WONDERFUL concerts in Vienna and Barcelona and very excited to see another in the lovely city of Krakow.

The ensemble is advertised as the "Royal Chamber Orchestra," an ensemble credited for "excellent taste" and "perfect technique" (according to the program).

The musicians sat down to tune abd all their instruments were out-- it was clear that they were not warmed up or prepared to perform. Although now aware of the fact that they were not a professional quartet, I was willing to overlook that and enjoy the music regardless.

What I was treated to was a pathetic exercise in self adulation by the first violinist, Kamil Skicki. The least of my complaints were that loud does not equal good, and that baroque music is not romantic; Bach should not incorporate glissando. He had a strong hold on false harmonics, if that gives you an idea. Skicki put on quite the show, using his platform to wow audiences with cheap tricks, soak up the spotlight, and relied on gimmicks to cover his technical inadequecies.

If that's the kind of show one chooses to attend that is perfectly fine. The key concept is CHOICE. What angered me the most was the false advertising. I was settling in for a fine chamber concert, not a perversion of several classical standards.

A waste of 16 €. The program notes that "visiting Krakow and not listening to his performance is a sin." I'd like to counter with the simple idea that charging for a performance like that was the original sin.

Hey Alexandra Thank you. I acknowledge you for who you are and I accept the way you think. No point in straightening a banana. This concert is for people with adaptive mindset, open for experience. You did not like the concert, Ok not everybody has to. Why didn't you exit at the beginning and get a refund? Every other listener stood up at the end as yesterday we had another standing ovation. Yes I know, I totally agree with you. It was outrageous, people standing up and shouting "encore" after a concert like this. They obviously did not go to the same concerts in Vienna or in Barcelona as you. (I performed in Musikverein and in Palau de la Música also with standing ovations, but I don't really care about that) Clearly you are more sophisticated than the rest of the world. "Skicki put on quite the show, using his platform to wow audiences with cheap tricks, soak up the spotlight, and relied on gimmicks to cover his technical inadequecies" Love you for that one. Yes! I self adulate, I am also cocky and audacious, comes with the territory I guess. Have a great life, love it, and savor it. I respect you and wish you all the best from the deepest depths of my heart. Kamil Skicki, First Violinist & proud master of pathetic exercising in self adulation.

Unfortunately due to the time of year this String Quartet wasn’t being held in the small church in Krakow Square due to the temperature. They were relocated to a small building / room a short walk away (5mins). Still off of the square.
I have never seen a string quartet before as I didn’t think it would be my sort of thing. But I couldn’t be more wrong. The hour performance was fantastic. They played a mixture of classical music and music from well know movies.
We went on Saturday as the Friday evening performance didn’t go ahead. We were do impressed we wanted to see them perform a different set on Sunday but didn’t get back in time from a prebooked tour.
My wife thoroughly enjoyed it and it was amazing value for money.
Please don’t miss this you won’t be disappointed.
We saw a bigger more expensive performance on Sunday and we both preferred this one.

Good value for money and the quartet were brilliant and played many songs from a varied repertoire.
Only down side was the concert was not in St Aldabert’s church on the main square but 5 min walk away at the Chopin gallery. It was too cold for the recital in the church which was a pity as the venue looked beautiful.
We still enjoyed the recital and I’d recommend to book a ticket as it was well worth the money.

For the evening of my 40th birthday, I was looking for something special to do in Krakow and settled on this concert experience after reading favourable reviews.

Typically, the concert takes place in a tiny but beautiful church in the main square; however, it was moved to the nearby concert hall owing to problems with heating.

Any initial disappointment I felt not to see the show in its ‘proper’ location was soon forgotten once the performance got under way...

The music had energy and excitement, with the string quartet breathing new life into classical standards and contemporary favourites.

First violinist Kamil was a charismatic virtuoso - deftly segueing from William Tell’s Overture into a joyful, free-form medley that came as a welcome surprise!

The audience was tiny (around 10 people), but what lucky people to enjoy at close quarters such a wonderful performance!

Less, as they say, is more and this tightly crafted one-hour show was a highlight of our visit to Krakow.

Sincerest thanks Kamil and your colleagues!

What a superb surprise this was! Booked pretty last minute on a family holiday to Krakòw as a wee treat on New Year's Eve. We spent the day wondering just how they were going to fit the (considerably extensive) programme into just an hour. Maybe they'll pick a couple of pieces from the selection? Maybe we'll just get some excerpts? Boy were we wrong! A few bars into the Bach had us looking at each other in puzzlement - that is a corking tempo - are they playing it double speed?! Things then escalated from the fastest Pachelbel and Vivaldi I've ever heard. We could see the musicians giggling as they waited for the audience to catch up with their japes. The skill required for each of the musicians to follow as they took it in turns to vary the pace and "ad lib" was impressive. Rachmaninoff meets the Godfather was a favourite. As was a "2 cellos" style Phantom. A diverting (and amusingly posturing) Carmen sealed the deal. Thrilling, quirky and imaginative. A fun interpretation bringing new life to the old classics and showing the phenomenal musical talents of the Royal Chamber Orchestra. Well worth a visit!
