We visited shortly after guides were allowed to do tours again given the Corona situation. We did a private tour with our guide Marek who was very friendly and did an excellent job in explaining lots of details about the camp's history. He took his time and adapted to our knowledge of the matters while also nicely including the current exhibition in the tour. We were encouraged to ask any questions we had upon which we were provided with even more interesting details. Though the grounds are accecible without paying for a guide we definately recommend taking a guided tour because it adds significantly to the experience. The current rules regarding facial protection etc. are met as well as possible.

The visit to the Majdanek nazi concentrtion camp is dramatic and moving, but it is also very important in order to keep up the memory of the past, in order to repeat: NEVERMORE!
The camp is well preserved, open all day, and the visit is free. All information is written in Polish, Hebrew and English, so is accessible to everyone. Many barracks were preserved or reconstructed and some of them host interesting displays.
The memorial monument is awesome, a real rocky mountain carved and eroded in order to express all the suffering.
If you come to Poland, you definitely need to come to Lublin and see this museum.

The former German concentration camp in Lublin, the so-called Majdanek is proof of what one person can do to another person out of racial, ideological and national hatred. This is an example of what the desire to rule over the world and people leads to. We saw it once, we can see it now. The camp itself is quite large because the former barracks are located on a large area. In some barracks there are exhibitions with various prisoners' belongings, and there are also various information boards with information about the camp. We visited the camp with a guide who certainly had a lot of knowledge, but somehow didn't convey it skillfully (middle-aged lady, colorful hair). We entered the building of the former gas chamber, several barracks, the former crematorium and approached the Mausoleum of Struggle and Martyrdom monument. I'm a little dissatisfied because the guide didn't tell us everything, and I saw that other guides with other groups visited the entire museum in more detail. Well, it's a pity, but I'm glad I visited this place. I was once in AUSCHWITZ-BIRKENAU in Oświęcim and that place, honestly, made an even greater impression on me. However, this place is of course also worth seeing with your own eyes.

We have booked a tour with guide. You pay 100 PLN for approximately 2.5h and you have private guide. It was very professional. Entrance is free. Parking 5 PLN. It is hard to imagine that one person could do something like that to another. It was in times when there were cars, aeroplanes, ferries, civilization. It is one of German concentration camps in Poland. However one of largest when it concerns area and with 18400 Jewish killed by German during 1 day!

Visited on a cold blustery day, rain and sleet started midway through our visit, bring home the horrid conditions the prisoners of the camp had endured. The last stop was the truly awful mausoleum where the ashes of the Nazi's victims rest . . . a fitting site of remembrance.

It feels odd to write a review of such a horrifying place. But this is a site all should visit, though it is difficult to be here. I took a private guided tour in English, which I booked about a week in advance. I was alone and in USD it was around $45--it is a flat rate so if you are with others it will be much lower per person. This was extremely worth it as I had loads of questions. She had additional literature with her so she was able to show me things not in the exhibits. Even after the tour (3 hours) I stayed 1 more hour to make sure I took everything in.

The Museum is close to Lublin, about 10 minutes by car depending a little of the time of day. We took3 hours to walk around and take it all in.If you want to read all the signs, you will need more time. It is hard to imagine how things were here at the time. Old footage from thattime gives you even a more horror look of that situation. What made an impression is the magnitude of it all. Not just of this place but all that happened in Poland. Places like this need to be visited to learn about that time. We should never forget. There is no entrance fee, just a parkinig fee if you get there by car.

Seeing it during the day it seems like a quiet and fairly tidy city. I only toured the historic areas and those in the center where I found many students and families intent on shopping and running errands.
Unfortunately, three days are not enough to see it all so it will be necessary to return to find out more. I'm sure there are many interesting things to discover. The people I met were kind and helpful, the prices were very affordable and the traditions were very interesting. I advise you to definitely stay in a hotel that has at least 4 stars (for your personal comfort, which never hurts) and to go there in periods that are not too cold. I know that vodka is good but you can't spend the day with the bottle in your hand to warm yourself :) I didn't find any souvenir shops other than a few things at the airport at absurd prices compared to the rest. When this happens, falling back on food products is always a valid solution. The history of Lublin is very interesting, go and read it before leaving.

Had a few hours spare so decided on Majdanek. Majdanek is no more than 10 minutes drive from Lublin. They estimated 1-2 hours to visit, but we spent 3 hours there and did not have time to read all the notice boards. If you are a history or WWII buff then plan to spend the better part of more than half day. There is a fair bit of walking. Fascinating insight to the terror of the war. You cannot help but shed a tear.

This camp is as prominent as the others we have been to. An excellent exhibition is on display in one of the barracks. There is the display of shoes which seems to go for miles and of course the gas chambers themselves. A must see tour to remind us of the evil man can inflict.

Where do you suggest staying in Lublin ?
Written 21 October 2017
Recommend The Grand Hotel. It's a classic hotel with large rooms and marble stairways. They have an enclosed parking lot. You can book it on the internet. Also there is a good Italian restaurant called The Dolce Vita a few blocks down the pedestrian mall.
