About
The large window that nature carved in the face of the Prisank mountain is the best-known in Slovenia. It is a staggering 80 metres tall and 40 metres wide. Its tattered rock cliffs and the large mound of scree below indicate that sometime in history, the rock was punctured at a weak joint causing a landslide that, through rock-deterioration and weathering, grew to its present day size. Which is the correct name, Prisank or Prisojnik? This is a dilemma that has been going on for more than a century. Both names mean the same in the Slovenian language and the name of the mountain indicates that its slopes are positioned to face the Sun.

Not sure this is worthy of a review, but you can see this at one of the viewpoints on the way up the Vrsic pass, coming from Kransjka Gora.
We were lucky enough to visit when snow was around, but the pass still open.

The mountain Prisank has many names and many natural wonders. One of those is the Front Prisank Mountain window. You can see it during the ascend to the mountain pass Vršič, somewhere between the middle and the upper third of the road. There is also a great mountain path through the window, but it is recommended just for well-equipped and well-trained mountaineers, not afraid of height and chasm. If it is the first time for you in these mountains, then hire a guide for these paths.

The window was quite easy to spot and just adds to the beauty of the mountains. The car park where we stopped also had information on the flora and fauna etc interesting to read.

Very nice place and very nice phenomenon - but not all the time. The Prisank Mountain Window is visible also from the Jasna Lake. If you hit the proper moment - great impression.

Located quite a distance after bend 12 there is a parking sign which we discovered was the viewpoint of Prisank mountain, the window and the Heathen Maiden. The window was clear to see in the mountain and although it only looked like a small wedge to us, it measured eighty by forty metres in size which we thought was quite amazing. Below and to the left of this was the rock formation that created the face of the Heathen Maiden.
The hairpin bend road signs start to disappear at this point so keep your eyes open as there is no other signage to advertise the site.

Thanks to Tripadvisor contributors we found this amazing natural sight.
Although the sun was not shining through it, but once spotted you'll be enthralled.
There is a view point with lots of information, so you do not have to be a hiker to enjoy it.

There are two eyes (oko) or windows (okno) - the prednje and the zadnje. The predje is closer to vrsic pass. It is about a 3 hour hike up from the pass to the window. From there to the summit of Prisank is another hour of scrambling and easy rock climbing, but you must have a head for heights and good skllls as it is very exposed and there are long drops into the valley. Not recommended when wet or icy. If you see peoiple wearing hard hats, well, that gives you a clue - easy to bump your head. Gloves also recommended as the rock is very sharp.

You'll need a Via Ferrata set if you plan to tackle this ascent. An amazing trail to the top of Prisank, then an easier descent back to the top of the pass.

There are great hikes in this area and this phenomenon is certainly worth at least viewing even if you don't have the equipment / nerve to climb through it.
Experienced climbers will find it a breeze in good weather and hikers with a good head for heights and a comfortable harness / helmet combination may enjoy the challenge.
Once you start you are pretty much committed. As long as you don't meet any one coming the other way you should be able to go at your own pace. There are intermittent ledges where you can let others go by. Great views if you look across- better not to look down!
