The Slovene Ethnographic Museum is a museum "about people, for people", a museum of cultural identities, a link between the past and the present, between traditional and modern culture, between our own and other cultures, between the natural environment and civilisation. It is a museum of dialogue, open, active and hospitable, dedicated to serving the public. It presents and reports on traditional culture as well as mass and pop culture in Slovenia and the diaspora, on non-European cultures, and on the material and intangible cultural heritage of both everyday and festive life.

Three big museums are a must in Ljubljana: Museum of contemporary history, National Gallery and this one. They have interesting permanent collection, fresh temporary exhibition, souvenir shop with Plečnik's furniture and fine little refreshment bar. You will learn an lot about life in Slovenia, mainly in 19. Century in countryside.

we went here as it was included in our 3 ay city pass and it was worth the 15 minute walk from the old town. Its set over 4 floors and gives an interesting insight into Slovenian history. It takes about an hour to see it all and the various exhibits are well set out and sufficiently described in English

a surprisingly large museum with pretty much everything you'd want to know about Slovenia (in it's various forms over the millennia). When we went they had a marvelous collection of doors - yeah, that's right, dozens of doors - from ancient to contemporary that were fascinating. There's a very nice gift shop and a shop specializing in knitted and woven... More

For me this type of museum can be a bit tedious. However this is a great building and everything is well presented. There was an exhibition on doors which was brilliant, more than just a few old doors!

I stopped by here after reading about it in Rick Steves' book. The exhibits were interesting and well presented. They have an exhibit here that shows doors from all ages. Yes, doors! This was a fantastic exhibit! I consider the door exhibit a must see for folks who are fans of the unusual.

We thought we would pop in here for 15 mins as it was included in our city pass. We stayed nearly 2 hours. It has four floors of relevant information regarding the culture of Slovenia and the surrounding countries. Not too heavy.

This is, by far, my favorite museum we visited in Ljubljana. If you are on your Slovenian roots journey, this is an absolute must -- if not, it is still wonderful. Do pick up the audio guide from the desk. The artifacts on the top floor are fascinating -- including the implements of daily life (wooden fishing boat, ceramics, furniture,... More

This modern museum next to Metelkova had something for everyone ( teen/ twenties/parents) - the history of Slovenia through a multicultural prism. Interesting (for us) to compare the Slovenian and Welsh cultures. Some fascinating parallels. Very interesting exhibits from all over the world. A light, spacious building. The helpful staff suggested that we took the lift to the top floor... More

We stumbled across this striking building after a visit to Metelkova and were intrigued by both the architecture and the exhibitions on offer. The helpful staff suggested we took the lift to the top floor and wind our way down, following the white line. Well curated and creatively laid out, it offered a feast of knowledge with graphic exuberance. If... More
