Very near the center of Old Town, along a street with lots of shopping. The fountain in the street is actually a copy. You can see the original in the National Gallery, within a 10 - 15 minute walk of the center.

This is another part of the old town that is worth making your way to, as part of your explorations. Lovely fountain and beautiful buildings.

A few steps away from the Town Hall you will find the Fountain of Three Carniolan Rivers or Robba Fountain (named after its creator). Modelled on famous Roman fountains, it has an obelisk and the sculptures of the three river gods adorning it are believed to represent three Carniolan rivers: the Sava, the Ljubljanica and the Krka. A cultural monument of national importance, in 2006 it was decided to replace it with a replica and place the original fountain in the National Gallery for protection and safekeeping.

The original fountain has been in the National Art Gallery since 2006. There is now a copy outside the Town Hall. Designed in 1751 it is a Baroque fountain representing Slovenia's 3 main rivers. A beautiful piece of work with a 3 sided obelisk.

Located right in front of Town Hall, we really enjoyed the architectural design. It's very pretty and looks great at sunset.

Based on a fountain in Rome the water represents Slovenia’s 3 main rivers. Made of marble in some places it is very well designed and elegant.

This lovely fountain stands in front of the Town Hall (Magistrat) on Mestni trg Square. It was designed between 1743 -1751, by the Venetian sculptor, Francesco Robba, so it is commonly called the Robba Fountain. It was inspired by two fountains in Rome - Bernini's Fontana Dei Quattro Fiumi at Piazza Navona but modelled after Fontana del Pantheon at Piazza della Rotonda. In fact, it took Robba almost 8 years to finish, and it bankrupted him so he left Ljubljana after this.
The fountain has three male figures with jugs which are meant to represent the three rivers of Carniola, which has three regions. The steps up to the fountain symbolise the Carniolan mountains. The 10 metre high obelisk is made of local marble, whereas the sculptures are of white / blue-grey Carrara marble from Tuscany. Since 2001, the fountain has been declared a cultural monument of national significance and must be protected. As a result, in 2006, the original fountain was renovated and removed into the National Gallery in order to protect it from the elements. What you see in Mestni trg square is in fact a replica.

Although not totally original, it is still a nice interpretation that fits this community's history. Francesco Robba was a Venetian sculptor who lived in Ljubljana for most of his life. He completed this piece in 1751 (after 8 years of construction).
The 3 river gods of the Carnelian rivers represent the Sava, the Krka, and the Ljubjanica. The design borrows heavily from Bernini's fountain of the 4 rivers in Rome.
A giant obelisk rises from the center of the fountain. What is on display in the square is a copy. The original was destroyed.

The Robba Fountain, one of Ljubljana's best known Baroque monuments, also known as The Fountain of Three Carniolan Rivers, stands at the edge of the Mestni trg square. It was created between 1743 and 1751 by the Venetian-born sculptor and architect Francesco Robba (1698-1757), who spent most of his life in Ljubljana and is considered to be the city's greatest Baroque master sculptor working in stone.
The Robba Fountain is modelled on famous Roman fountains. The sculptures of three river gods adorning it are believed to represent three Carniolan rivers: the Sava, the Ljubljanica and the Krka. The Fountain's ground plan is shaped in the form of Ljubljana's ancient three-leaf town seal.
The Fountain of Three Carniolan Rivers was Robba's last work in Ljubljana. While sculpting it, he became poor and as soon as the work was finished he moved to Zagreb.
The current fountain in the city centre is a replica. The original was moved to the National Gallery
