About
The Museum explores the history of Slovenia from 1914 up to nowadays. In addition to its exhibitions, the Museum also offers a variety of programmes for both children and adults. It carries out activities in the field of culture, education and research, collaborating with various institutions, and thus serves as a bridge between the general public and historical science. It connects the fates of 20th century Slovenian people and provides visitors with answers to questions about their own identity in modern times. The Museum also serves as a gathering place for groups of all kinds and as a place for dialogue and reflection. It not only answers questions, but it also raises questions and assists visitors in their search for answers, forming a type of partnership in which the Museum serves as a dynamic, innovative and welcoming establishment.

This is a great place to visit if you’re interested in the history of Slovenia. It maps out the last 100 years or so and goes a long way to explain the complex history of this beautiful country

We visited this museum as a companion visit to the National History Museum of Slovenia. The ground floor is dedicated to the achievements of Slovenian athletes. There’s quite a lot of exhibition space given over to WWI and WWII, not surprising given how the two world wars shaped Slovenia. The communist era exhibition may be nostalgic for some locals, but definitely has some horrific stories on par with the Axis occupation. The exhibition of Slovenian history ends with her ascension to the EU. Welcome to the European family, Slovenia!

The exhibits are high quality and will no doubt engender civic pride in Slovenian identity. All the exhibits have English descriptions as well as Slovenian. There’s also currently a special exhibition on Ukrainian refugees.

The museum contains exhibitions and information regarding the country, its history and culture. It can be combined with the Natural History museum.

We visited in a Saturday morning. It was very quiet and relaxed. The displays were well organized and labeled. Most had descriptions in English included. The first level had Olympic and professional athlete’s’ memorabilia. There were props for young to experience equipment. Many interactive exhibits on this level. The second level covered the 20th c. Learned a lot

Slovenia has a very interesting history. It is presented here in a fashion that seems like it hasn’t been updated since the 1990s

The displays are visually cluttered and a confusing jumble.

The atmosphere is deadly boring and depressing.

The museum certainly does not represent best or even average museum display.

Museum has interesting presentation of the Slovenian history but with no big improvements in the last two years. Temporary presentations are less interesting. Plečnik’s exhibition is far better in Mestni muzej (City museum) and in Etnographic museum in Metelkova.

Fab museum focusing on the complex history of Yugoslavia and Slovenia. The museum is modern with lots of information and easy to follow as the exhibitions are in date order with maps and interesting pieces. Great place to visit, having visited most of the ex-Yugoslav capitals this was the best museum we found to explain the history of the region. Well worth a visit!

Learned a lot from the tour. The World War 2 and Communist features were perhaps the most interesting. Could have been bulked up a little more - considering the entry fee - but definitely worth a visit.
