About
The Museum explores the history of Slovenia from 1914 up to nowadays. In addition to its exhibitions, the Museum also offers a variety of programmes for both children and adults. It carries out activities in the field of culture, education and research, collaborating with various institutions, and thus serves as a bridge between the general public and historical science. It connects the fates of 20th century Slovenian people and provides visitors with answers to questions about their own identity in modern times. The Museum also serves as a gathering place for groups of all kinds and as a place for dialogue and reflection. It not only answers questions, but it also raises questions and assists visitors in their search for answers, forming a type of partnership in which the Museum serves as a dynamic, innovative and welcoming establishment.

Nice museum - but could be more accessible
Dec 2019
All in all we liked this museum and spent 4 hours here. It is a nice building, and very informative, covering the history from WWI to today. But we found a few things made the visit difficult. The exhibits and the boards didn't tell a logical story. Sometimes things were arranged not in chronological order. Often words were not explained but it is expected that the reader has some historical knowledge which may not be the case if you are not from Europe (e.g. Axis Powers, Entente)

Dear Vicky, thank you dearly for your feedback. We take them seriously and try to adapt the exhibition all the time accordingly. Therefore, we value your insight, which was unfamiliar to us by now through the rest of the feedback. Moreover, we are happy you've enjoyed the musuem despite that and are always welcome to come back! Best, Museum team

A unique Museum ,worth of a visit for history addicted
Jan 2020
Not easy task to deal with contemporary history in the ex Yugoslavia and at crossroad with Italian and German culture ( and two world wars plus an horrible civil war). Some unique memorabilia

Interesting but complicated!
Oct 2019
I hoped to gain more knowledge about Slovenia's checkered history and especially about the various rulers and states. We were slightly hampered by an auction going on, so had to retrace our steps through half the museum. The history is complicated and further hampered by bad translations and wordy language. We found it easiest to read the detailed panel at the start of each section, then just view the exhibits.

Thank you so much for your review and insightful feedback. Until now, we had hardly any remarks regarding the bad translations (which are all done by authorised translators and proofread). Therefore, we would love to know, if there was any part particularly bad, or was it all equally bad? For more in-depth information, a nice collection of catalogues in English are available at our museum shop, some dedicated to particular eras within the 20th century, some offering an overview in general. Moreover, yes, sometimes we have events going on in the ballroom, which interferes into exhibition visit, but usually we try to make it as subtle and as invisible as possible. Hopefully, it didn't cause too much of inconvenience to you. Overall, we hope your visit was still satisfying and enlightening. Best, Museum team

Fascinating look at Slovenia's recent history
Sep 2019
As with most attractions we came across in Slovenia, a lot of thought has gone into making a visit here a very rewarding and moving experience. The exhibits are laid out in a logical order and show in detail Slovenia's recent history.

Easy way to learn 20th Century history of the area
Sep 2019
Well done exhibit of WWI to current period in Slovenian history. Notes are in Slovene and English and the exhibits are really well presented. This is not a history book, but rather a great orientation that encouraged me to read more about this fascinating time.

Dear Aneela, so sory to hear, you were not happy with your museum visit, but it was not our museum. The museum described must be the National Museum of Slovenia, since our exhibitions start with the period of 1914 and continue throughout the 20th century to basically yesterday. If you could have another look at which museum you have visited, it would be great. And of course, you are warmly welcome to visit ours - hopefully, you will find more of Slovenia here, since our permanent exhibition is titled: Slovenians in the 20th century. Best, the museum team

A moving look at the recent past
Sep 2019 • Friends
This relatively small museum is sensitively and we'll put together - if you're in Tivoli Park it's worth dropping in to discover more about Slovenia and it's Yugoslavian predecessor. Unique objects made by ordinary people are a highlight (like the chess sets made by prisoners).

A comprehensive look into times past
Jul 2019
I had not planned to visit but whilst walking through the park early one morning I came upon the billboards advertising the photographic exhibition on the ground floor...and I am so pleased I went in to investigate!
The top floor has a myriad of artifacts, video clips and memorabilia from across the decades which offer insights into the leader, citizens and country known under various guises over the years. There are poignant reminders of what war does to a nation's psyche as well as what is possible when the strength and determination of a proud people comes in to play.
The photographic exhibition on the ground floor is brilliant too. The 2.5 hours I spent in this museum were inspirational, informative and thoroughly enjoyable.
