    Funky Graffiti Art District
Funky graffiti and street art district near the city center. Interesting collection of styles and types of art. East walk from the center of Ljubljana. Some might see it as a little sketchy, but we enjoyed it.

Alternative autonomous area, not for everyone
This a an area in the style of Christiania of Copenhagen, but much smaller, more quite. A bit sketchy for the "average" tourist. I would say go if you are into art - lots of graffiti. Go if you are into anarchist ideology. Do not take pictures of people. No problems if being discrete, and making photos of graffiti. Worth for a short walk, but not much else to do.

    A different side of Ljubljana
The kind of interesting, creative, subcultural place that every city should have some space for. Cool graffitis, full of posters and stickers that speak of fun parties and cool concerts. Unfortunately we were only passing through and couldn't attend anything, but maybe next time.

Located in a slightly dodgy part of the city is an area, worth visiting, as it houses an alternative artists lifestyle, we spent at least an hour admiring, all the different sculptures and street art, definitely worth a visit.

Nice area to walk around and see the different street art.

Ire me is was just good, nothing special or amazing so go and see if close by, but don’t go out of your way to see or do.

Very interesting and cool art. Worth walking through, it is only a 15ish minute walk from city center. I visited mid-day and felt safe and comfortable.

Right so this is an interesting place! Ultimately we were really glad we came here for a number of reasons. Some of the artwork is super impressive (I will attach photos). The mix of everything all together is amazing. If your expecting cafes, hippy-types, craft shops, galleries as I was then you might be disappointed. There was one bar and one gallery open when we went. The characters around the place were not artists or hippy types, they were more than just stoned, there were drugs being sold openly and I don't think it was marijuana as some people were in a pretty bad state. One man spat at us which wasn't ideal or welcoming. However it wasn't unsafe as such but I wouldn't come here alone. Ljubljana old town is such a clean and well presented place that it was actually pretty refreshing to see another side of it and a bit more reality of life in a big city. I have attached photos.

I was staying quite close by and got to sample the alternative culture of this neighbourhood day and night. There's no shortage of street art, counter culture squatters and half naked madmen. Lots of street art and strange sculptures to see. Despite what some have said, I thought it was safe both day and night.

Metelkova is an experience in itself. There is a hostel in it, which is deceivingly close to the train station and thus attracts unassuming tourists who may just be passing by. The graffiti, architecture and tightly concentrated culture are sublime even if it can be unsettling. It almost makes up for the random old naked man I saw on the street, or the fact that I was warmly and openly offered M&Ms (molly and marijuana) one Friday evening. I would NOT bring your non-European friend. If you're like me and you don't get freaked out seeing drug dealers and/or doers in their natural habitats, this will be an unforgettable visit.
