Parenzana
About
This cycling path connects many coastal cities and towns of Slovenia and offers some spectacular views over Piran and Izola. Between Portoroz and Koper are two climbs, but easy to manage also for people with less experience of cycling. We did it with kids and it was great - kids really loved driving through tunnels.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Walking along Parenzana is a useful pastime if you are visiting the Slovenian coast in spring or in autumn. In summer it is a bit too hot. Parenzana is a cycling path or a footpath linking the towns on the coast and also inland. As this was previously a railway route, there are also a few tunnels along the way. We only walked a short part of the route from Portorož to Strunjan, which takes about an hour. There is also a long tunnel between these two towns, but it is well lit. Most of the path is covered with asphalt, so it is also suitable for cyclists. You can also take a longer walk, e.g. as far as Izola, and then take a bus back if you are tired.

A nice trip for the family with teenage children. You can walk from Portorož through the tunnel to the beach near the camp and along the coast to Pacug, Fiesa and Piran back to Portorož.

We rented a motor scooter at KPE Rent a Bike in Koper (they are not on TripAdvisor, but are are at Pristaniška ulica 27a, 6000 Koper - Capodistria, Slovenia). We got an amazing price and great service.

The owner assured me that scooters were allowed on the Parenzana trail. We had a blast driving through the tunnels and seeing the amazing sights navigating the Slovenian countryside. Signage is not good, so download a good map from a biking app and make sure your GPS is on.

Stop off at Ice Point (a/k/a Selecar Caffe (also not on TripAdvisor) - 6320 Strunjan, Slovenia) for a great refreshment on your journey!

We had a great time and going through the old railroad tunnels is simply magical and amazing, especially coming out at the end and seeing a beautiful fertile valley flowing down to the ocean.

We cycled from Koper south to Portoroz and back. Beautiful scenery and nice riding trail. A little tricky to find the trail in certain places, but well worth the effort!

I started at Buje and cycled to Koper , getting lost several times! Sometimes it is just a path by the road, sometimes forest track, sometimes well signed small D8 road with tarmac, sometimes promenade. Signs disappear when you get to towns and so you have to cycle on the main road. Don’t forget your passport and stop at some of the seaside towns. Suggest you cycle from Croatia to Slovenia to make the most of downhill section!

It is a nice walk or a bike ride from Portorož to Strunjan and back, and you avoid the traffic. Just look for signs at Mercator store in Portorož.

This place is very nice for running, biking or just a walk. It is simply amazing in any seasons because of mother nature.

The path is indeed full of history, as it is on the route of the former narrow-gauge train route of Trieste-Porec. Really cool. You have to have bike.

We loved this trail. We cycled along the Parenzana during an entire day and enjoyed every single bit of it. The landscapes that you will see are diverse and gorgeous: views of Izola, vineyards, the sea, ... You even get to go through tunnels. You can also leave it to take another trail to get to Piran. A must-see if you stay in Slovenia. Enjoy!
