Another castle... that's what we thought as we filled our last day in Slovenia. We were tempted to just drive up to it and see its beauty from the outside only. We stumped up the cash in the end and took the audio tour. We were so glad we did! Although yes the inside isn't packed with stuff to look... More

After a 50 minute drive from the Prinsendam docked in Koper through the picturesque Karst Region we arrived at Postojnska to see the best preserved castle in Slovenia. Our group of seven couples walked up the paved path to the only accessible side of this stunning castle that truly commands the surrounding countryside. Our guide says this is the former... More

Predjama Castle is a sight you will never forget, dramatically built into the rock face of the Kerst region of Slovenia. You can reach it from the much more commercialized and advertised Postojna caves in an easy scenic 20 minute drive. The way to the castle is well marked. If you are visiting both caves and the castle, get the... More

We did not allocate enough time for it, you should allocate one hour and a half to really enjoy it and listen to all the explanations. Half of the castle is a cave, you can barely tell where the cave ends and the walls begin. There is also a nice legend about a Slovenian Robin Hood.

After seeing Postojna Cave you should visit this castle which is not too far from there and you can buy discount tickets in the cave. We have already visited some castles all around Europe (e.g. in Hungary, UK, Czech Republik etc), but it was one of the most extraordinary. It is very interesting that this was built in the rocks.... The drive out to Postojnska is beautiful - through the countryside, quaint villages. Once you park for the castle there are free public bathrooms there (none in the castle). Then you walk to the ticket booth and pay for your ticket that includes the audio tour (11.90 euro each) and head on in to the castle. The audio guide will... More

We visited here just before closing and they waited for us. Very nice of them. The view is incredible and the stories are worth listening to.

We basically were looking for something to see on a road trip out of Croatia, and followed signs to this castle and it was immediately one of our favorite places ever. Visually stunning, the history of the place was made extremely accessible with an audio guide that made the history come alive for us! Children will love the history too... More

We visited this castle in winter and it allowed us to gain a taste for what it would be like in the winter to live there! (So take your jacket) Other than that we really enjoyed our time exploring aided by a fantastic and efficient audio guide! Would definitely recommend and can be done on same day as cave HOWEVER...
