We expected to be led through the museum with explanations. As a result, we were sent to inspect the “museum” ourselves. After that, they gave out 4 stacks for each with an amount of half a sip. The Hungarian tasting plate paid for two also looked skimpy and looked like it was designed for one person at most. This visit did not correspond to the amount paid.

We couldn’t really understand how this is the third best museum in Budapest! It’s very small, and unfortunately none of the interactive games were working properly. We were offered a guided tour but as we were the only two people there we didn’t like to take up someone’s time just for us, so we read the information ourselves. The barman was very friendly and knowledgeable, we enjoyed chatting to him while we tasted some plum Palinka (which I’m afraid to say we did not enjoy the taste of!) We got this included with our ticket to the thermal baths and luckily the museum was a few doors down from our hotel, but if I’d made a special journey or had to pay for this experience then I’d have been disappointed

There is a lot more to Pálinka than you would think and I believe this to be the best place to discover it. Unfortunately the museum itself has seen better days, is quite small and doesn't provide with much information. But what the exhibition is lacking is fully made up for by the great staff so make sure to attend one of the tours! I had the opportunity to be guided by Kinga who made sure we had ample info about every aspect of the spirit and the making process. I loved the tasting and how Kinga was able to describe each of the different aromas I was made to try. Ask for the richer flavours of Apricot or Red William's pear!
