About
A group of Budapest intellectuals led by an old-fashioned (or new-fashioned?) funny man, a retired professor Zoltan; while the colleagues are his friends, experts in history and culture. Please, visit us at rockhoppers.eu, and facebook and instagram, too. We share our knowledge about our city. OUR CITY, which is a place that one would not just either love or hate, but do love AND hate. Instead of offering boring schoolbook tours, we tailor them to the individual interest and personalities of the participants; and we do it in several languages. We make you an insider of Budapest on the tour. We are waiting for you as a “new citizen of Budapest”! Our customers mainly loved the Classic, the Jewish, the Communist and the Danube Bend tours most; however, we can take you to a 16th century Ottoman Turkish bath or try to find traces of your ancestors in Hungary, and we have several other tours, such as The Countryside in a Compressed File, Art Nouveau, or to take the best Budapest photos...

My wife and I travelled to Prague in November 23 for the first time. We only had 48 hours there so needed to make the most of our time, and see (and hear about) as much of the city as possible. Two weeks prior we'd met some people in Buenos Aires who'd recommend Zoltan Nagy as a guide, and provided some contact details.
Zoltan met us at our hotel and after a short get-to-know-you chat over a coffee, we took to the streets. Zoltan's knowledge of Budapest (and Hungary's) history, culture, people and politics was fantastic. His English is great and we visited places that I suspect are not on every tour guide's agenda.
It was a fantastic day which included lunch in a very traditional Hungarian restaurant that we'd never have found ourselves where escaped a cold November day for an hour or so, ate amazing local dishes and tried some .
We were very lucky to be put in touch with Zoltan and really enjoyed our day with him. He is a perfect guide.

Zoltan was very friendly and accomodating as he customised the tour based on our interests, needs and time and even allocated more time for us than initially scheduled. Thanks to him, we discovered many interesting places, some of them hidden in plain sight, and we gathered bits & pieces from history, architecture, local contemporary geopolitical context, trivia and personal anecdotes. We thus managed to get a better understanding of the city's personality. Zoltan is a very cultured, open-minded and wise individual and it was a pleasure getting to know him. We are grateful for this experience.

Zoltan is a wonderful tour guide. He took the time to understand our interests and crafted a tailor-made tour. He has deep knowledge of the history, culture, politics of the city, and brought us to both classic touristic sights and hidden gems. It felt like we got the "insider" tour of the city, without missing out on the "must-see" places. I can only recommend his tour, the best way to get to know the city!

Best guide ever! I can only recommend Zoltan and the Rockhoppers.
We started our tour in Szentendre, south of Budapest. Learned an awful lot about History, gastronomy and learned where we could purchase the best Langos :)
Zoltan is very knowledgeable, friendly person and had something to say about literally everything we looked at. We finished our trip in Budapest at the Fisherman’s Bastion. We had such a lovely day!

Hosting a meeting for our partners from accross Europe, we were looking for a guide, who is able and open to lead the custom 3 hour tour we imagined for our guests. After searching for possible candidates, we found Rockhoppers with their extensive selection of different themed tours in and around Budapest. And sure enough, theye were open to adjust the tour according to our needs.
Our guide was Zoltán, who is an open, flexible, energetic, well prepared guide, with wide knowledge in various topics, and in the history & present of Budapest. He was able to make our guests see the city in a way, they never did before. Thank you for that!

In October, at the beginning of our trip, we spent a wonderful full day private tour with Zoltan. I’d contacted Zoltan prior to our arrival and he was very responsive to our requests. Zoltan met us at our hotel, we did a walking tour on the Pest side until lunch, then he took us to a wonderful restaurant and winery where we had a delightful Hungarian lunch. After lunch we went to the Buda side touring the neighborhood and Palace ending the tour with a wine tasting. Zoltan exceeded our expectations and was a wonderful tour guide.

Zoltan was amazing! We wanted a tour with someone who would show us a real slice of Budapest, with a local, and he did! He caters the tour to your interests, and it was so special. He became our friend by the end of the tour! Absolutely book a tour with Rockhoppers and Zoltan!

This is a woefully overdue review! We travelled to Budapest last year for our one year wedding anniversary and we still regularly reminisce about our time with Zoltan. We spent two fabulous days with this wonderfully intriguing Hungarian. Full of random facts about everything, this is the way to see Budapest and Hungary in all it's glory from a man full of enthusiasm and humour. Not only will he revel in the wonder that is historical Budapest but he will also be brutally honest about its failures and darker side. He quickly tailors the tour to suit your interests and personality and by the end of the two days we felt like I had known him for years and were catching up with an old friend. Boring tourist cattle mart this is not. Individualised, bespoke and from the heart this is. We love you Zoltan! We promise to come back soon, Jo and Steve Phillips

Zoltan makes history come alive, and he did it for my school group for the 2nd year in a row. His personal experiences with the former Communist government and his explanations of the changes in Hungary since 1989 make these past events and present challenges real to my students. After teaching more than four decades, I have so much left to learn--and he is the perfect teacher, guide, and host. In addition, he makes planning easy. Prompt communication, helpfulness in adjusting to the quirks of each group, and flexibility are hallmarks of his individual approach. I cannot recommend Zoltan and other representatives of Rockhoppers Tours highly enough.

My Mum and I were shown around Budapest by the lovely and knowledgeable Zoltan. Zoltan gave a 'warts and all' approach about the history and current political climate. It was very interesting and we learnt a lot about the history and saw some beautiful places. The Information provided would not be found on the 'usual' tours. It was a great introduction to Budapest with some funny stories.

I've been trying to reach this wonderful tour, but haven't heard from them. We'd love to book a tour for 7 people as soon as possible. We love history!

Hola.

Can anyone recommend a private tour guide (car not walking) for Prague on January 4th? Thank you!
Written 7 December 2017
Hi !
I have not tried Rockhoppers Private tour in Prague. However, Context Tours, which provides guided walking tours for small groups, is excellent. My husband and I have used them in London, Berlin and Budapest. They have yet to disappoint. The docents are very knowledgeable. You could check if they would do the tour in a car.

Hello. We are looking for a private tour on January 9th. We are three adults and would like it to be a private car tour with stops along the way. What is the cost per person? Do you pick up at hotel? We are staying at the Courtyard, City Center. One adult is 6’5” so he will need space in the vehicle. Thank you!

I cannot get to the website as a Malware message appears advising me not to visit. Therefore, I sent an email asking about the classic and roman tours on Monday and have not heard back? How can I get info on the tours? We are a group of 4 looking to book one of them on 6/30 prefer AM time, what's the availability, cost and how do I reach them?

Dear soups3,
Thank you for your message. And also thank you for the info about the infected website of ours.
Unfortunately, we haven't received your email.
Telling the truth, a half day for the Classical and the Romsn tours together would be too short. Let me recommend you a half day Classic tour.
I am staying in a hospital myself, and while I am here with the broken spine, it is my colleague Rita who coordinates the tours. I am semding this message to her, but for any case, please, together with tours

She is going to help you with recommending one of my best colleagues.
Price of a half day tour is 165 euro, while full day costs 290. This is the price of the tour and not the per person price.
We recommend walking and sometimes public transport.
Best regards,
Zoltan
