    Travel with sound...
The building itself is a work of art and worth a visit just for its unique architecture! The building cleverly plays with the environment, making it look like a mushroom in the forest; when you enter it, you enter a magical world flooded with light that is much bigger than it appears from the outside. The staff are super friendly and very helpful. The permanent exhibition is a fascinating interactive journey through the development of music with many different sound worlds. There is also a lot for children and you can have a drink in the café or restaurant before exploring the rest of the building.
Thanks for your kind words, we're really glad you had a nice experience at House of Music Hungary! 😊

My favorite place for cultural programmes in Budapest (probably in the World)
I have enjoyed the most unique and unforgettable musical experiences in this stunning House of Music! Standing ovation concerts where you get to know the musicians up-close, fun family programmes every Saturday morning, exciting interactive exhibitions including the Sound Dome... the list goes on... This is a place to visit and to return... many-many times!
Thanks for your nice words - we hope to have you here many-many times more! 😊

It is just an extraordinary experience. Only can recommend the visit to everyone! The best place in Hungary! If you want a great night with an excellent concert or to spend the time with family in an interactive interesting museum or in a peaceful library or just hang around in a cosy but very elegant atmosphere or grab a coffee or a nice meal don’t miss it!!! It is a must!

Fascinating & enjoyable exhibition & Sound Dome
We went for the Sound Dome, as there were no concerts available, and bought tickets for the permanent exhibition as well - without really knowing what it was. The current Sound Dome experience was based around one of Bosch’s paintings - totally bizarre but fascinating! The permanent exhibition was amazing. We really didn’t have enough time to do it justice. We wore headphones which picked up music or speech as appropriate, with some interactive elements. Loved becoming Carmen, for example. The design & ideas behind the exhibition were really outstanding!
Thanks for your kind words! We're glad you had a good time here, and hope you'll return again soon! 😊

Beautiful modern architecture - House of Music Budapest - Feb 2024
As you are walking through the Varosliget park in Budapest you shall find this interesting , intriguing and very beautiful modern building , a gem of the architecture of the 21st century ... It is a concert hall and events venue - but if you are not there for a music event , even than it is worth it to stop for a few minutes to take some pics. The architect was inspired by nature (maybe Gaudi?) and has incorporated some very natural elements into the building and it has created something unique. We stopped for a few minutes and few pics , definitely worth it. (Would be very interesting to catch a concert at the venue too, maybe next time).
Thanks for your kind and positive words! 😊 We hope that you can come back for a concert someday!

    A Special House of Music
This was a modern, gorgeous building set in a park, and covered in a wonderful, creative, interactive way, the entire history of music. Truly a wonderful experience for us. My one regret was that they didn't spend more energy showing the later Hungarian and gypsy music composers- I would have liked to hear more of them.

    DÍVÁK
Starting from the spectacular exterior structure, we visited the museum on the occasion of the Dívák exhibition. A journey from the past to the present of some of the greatest women in entertainment and world music. Really well organized and full of treasures; Recommendation to visit it because it is really worth it.

    Great museum
I really don’t understand the bad reviews for this place. My 19 year old and I thought it was great. Cool building inside a lovely park. You get earphones before you go in and these play according to where you stand or sit. Mostly music but some English commentary. It’s starts with music from the various tribes that settled Hungary. You step on a dot on the floor and that music plays. It continues through time. Gregorian chants and the rise of 4 part harmony, start of non religious music and opera, classical, on to contemporary music. It is sprinkled with cool interactive things to do. Some are kid oriented. You can look into a box and see tiny figures acting out a Mozart opera or sit done and watch clouds overhead as Debussy plays. You can adjust a radio to hear about the rise of rock and roll. One small thing is a few of the videos are only in Hungarian. If you are interested in music and/or history- it’s a must see.
Thanks for your kind words! We are happy that you enjoyed your time in the House of Music! 😊

A highlight to experience in Budapest: House of Music Hungary!
This museum's magnificent, sophisticated, yet meditative, sense of style, is extraordinary! Very special to experience. We saw temporary 'Divas & Icons' exhibit from London (misses a few divas to us!), didn't get to see another or a performance. Spent time marveling at this House of Music. And, enjoyed delicious lunch in the beautiful cafe. The surrounding setting, landscape, trees also wonderful.

The museum is located in the City Park. First impression: Gorgeous, interactive displays, world class exhibits. The headphones provide a backdrop of music and explanations in our chosen language and the accompanying music or explanation is automatically triggered as you stand in front of the exhibits. This is great. As someone who didn't like using audio guides, fiddling with buttons while navigating through museum spaces, I found this new method wonderful. Even kids would find it interesting. Parents don't really have much to do, especially for older kids who can navigate through independently.

The sound dome is also amazing, separate fee from the museum fee, if not a little too short.

The musical playground outside has great concepts. Unfortunately some of the play zones are damaged and not secured. This is dangerous and needs to be looked into.

Two negative points:
1. the headphones are not adapted to young children, they kept sliding off. It can't be good either that these devices keep hitting the floor. Would be good if they have kid-sized headphones.
2. The coat check area gets swarmed with big groups at certain intervals. It could be better to relocate this to another level or at least not right outside the washroom entrances, blocking the way. Or inform them that they could use the coin operated lockers just one floor below (coin is returned when reopened).

Tips
1. Don't queue for the coat check if it's long. There are lockers downstairs. Use a 100-forint coin or 1-euro coin.
2. Book your tickets online, it can get sold out.

My partner's grandson and I went to visit the interactive music exhibition called Hang-Tér, which was a great experience for both the little boy and us. After that, only us adults paid for the temporary pop history exhibition, which reminded us exactly of our youth, from Illés to Omega to LGT, from Zsuzsa Koncz to Zorán. It's a very cozy, period-appropriate environment, where I even discovered my parents' bar cabinet (or one just like it). We tried the studio and played the drums, it was really good!

This museum is part of the city’s initiative to build a new museum area by the park. The building in itself is already worth a visit as it is beautiful from the outside.

The permanent exhibition was sold out when we arrived but, luckily, it was not our last day in Budapest and the area of the museum is very pretty and accessible by bus, so we bought tickets for the next day; and —to make the most of being there already— we decided to visit the temporary exhibit, which at the time was “Divas & Icons”. It was totally worth it! It consisted of presenting the story and the garments of iconic celebrities. I never knew I would see this dresses in person! Nor did I expect to find them here.

The staff at the ticket office is very kind; they helped us buy our tickets for the permanent exhibition the following day (and even allowed us to change the time of our entry because we had made a mistake with our time selection).

The permanent exhibition is also very interesting; it follows the story of music in Hungary and in the rest of the world —in chronological order and in a very interactive way. At one point one of our audioguides stopped working and they immediately gave us a new one.

Totally worth visiting!

On the Recommendation of friends we visited the "House of Music Hungary". Basically, the idea of making Hungarian music experienceable in a museum is a great idea - if it had stayed that way.

First, you get headphones in your local language to be able to receive the corresponding information at so-called listening stations. Unfortunately, it doesn't work very well and if you're just a few inches too far left or right, you don't understand anything anymore.

The first rooms are about Hungarian folk music and the dance house movement. We found that really interesting. But then everything that happened in music really comes into play. Gregorian music, operas, sacred music, operettas, pop music from the 60s to the 00s, twelve-tone music or rap and hard rock. To put it mildly - this has relatively little to do with "Hungarian music".

The museum is also extremely heavy on text (despite the listening stations already described).

We stayed in the museum for over three hours ourselves, but we both thought that "less often is more" and one would have expected more "Hungarian music". Too bad, actually.

A really excellent museum, with a fascinating interactive exhibition covering the development of western classical music in general and also specifically Hungarian folk music . I knew that was a thing, but it was great to understand more and the different types. The museum itself is set in the park, a lovely building, with the bulk below ground, with great use of technology, listening to the different styles of music as they development. Well worth a couple of hours there.

The House of Music building is stunning and stands out in the middle of the place where it is inserted, in the City Park. The museum store has a lot of original and high quality souvenir. There are regular musical presentations. Next to the outdoor area there is a musical playground that attracts children and adults.

It is an event hall in the park, named the House of Music. It was not there when I visited Budapest about 10 years ago, so it looks like a new facility. At the time of my visit, I was just playing live. The unique architecture, with no partitions between outside and inside, is also quite interesting.

This was the best visit we made in our 3 days in Budapest. It's a beautiful modern building in the City Park which, itself, is well worth visiting to see the cardboard castle and the baths. Easily accessible by metro.

The House of Music has a an absolutely brilliant multi-media exhibition of the history of music in a Hungarian context. One of the best museums I have ever visited, simples.

An exceptional piece of modern architecture. Very interesting building to wander around. Although we did not pay tho go in the exhibition it was still worth a visit as you wander around the ground floor and outside. Beautifully designed building.
