Great for a stroll or run

Margitsziget is a relaxing place to go for a walk, run around the track that goes on the outer part of the island or rent a bike. The annual Terry fox run happens here.

Admittedly maybe unfair given the building work going on at the moment, but no paths really available for a circular walk due to building work. Not worth the time at the moment, maybe in the summer when they are done.

Me And My Friend Walked 1hour To This Island From Our Hotel, Nothing Stated Anywhere That Basically Nothing Is Open There In Winter, The Petting Zoo Was Closed, The Japanese Garden Was A Duck Pond And A Few Trees, We Had Nothing To Do Here And Wasted About 5 Hours Wondering Around It For Something To Do. Alot Of Construction... More

We walked here from the Parliament building. At prsent there are a few things that take place on the island - athletics and there is a pool. Nice kids play area. Lots of people go there to run around the island - there is a nice trach there.

The island is always a good place to go for some fresher air and to get away from the hubub of the city. It has a jogging track, bike lanes, food stands, hotels and lots of people. A nice break.

Local park, nothing spectacular. I wish I knew this before I went as I would definetly not go. If you are in Budapest for days and have nothing better to do then go, otherwises don't waist your time.

A beautiful island in the middle of the Danube. Easily accessed on foot. Gorgeous to walk around. The Palatinus Outdoor Bath was fantastic! Various pools, slides and outdoor activities, lockers, showers, food outlets. Take a complete day (or two) to enjoy the island. Loved it!

Spent a day on this beautiful island! The warm baths were amazing - different temperatures available per bath, wave pool, great locker room amenities! Also took it upon ourselves to tour the island on bicycles - definitely worth it in order to visit everything Margaret has to offer! Definitely a must if you visit Budapest!

We walked to the island from Pest side. The island is beautiful and it started snowing when we were there. It is lovely in winter but there were only a few people running or jogging, so we are hoping we can visit Budapest in summer and have an all-day-long picnic on Margaret Island 😊

Staying in Margaret Island

Neighbourhood Profile
Margaret Island
For Budapest, this island between the banks of the Danube represents a green oasis, especially during summer when its emerald spaces are much enjoyed by both locals and tourists. The gardens here are very picturesque; the flowers in full bloom give the landscape a variety of hues; the fountains add an air of freshness, making walks peaceful, joyful and romantic. A leisurely stroll will uncover a variety of sites, even the ruins of a medieval Franciscan church and convent are still visible.
