The island is popular for the people living in Budapest (for running and other sports) but as a visitor there's nothing spectacular to do or see there. During the summer time I guess one can go for the music fountain but that is a problem too. There is no site to show the schedule for the fountain. One can only... More

We took the #2 tram to the bridge and walked across to the island. It was a nice place to walk around - a small zoo with local animals...including the biggest rabbits I've ever seen. Some old buildings / ruins and a outdoor cafe. You can rent electric carts or pedal carts if you wish.

A beautiful park in the middle of Danube river. You can access it by tram it leaves you right outside. Ideal for running, cycling and long distance walking. You should have some water and a snack with you and enjoy the green atmosphere and the river. It is cold there so dress well.

We only found this island at the end of our visit, but absolutely loved the big dancing fountain, chilled atmosphere and lovely views.

Ok, only one of the best parks. It's huge and full of people when the season allows it. Great for picnics and it has a nice aqua park and public pool.

Luckily, you don’t have to be Usain Bolt to enjoy Margaret Island in all it’s glory. Prowl around this green space and you’ll find a quirky zoo, a musical fountain, and a rose garden.

This is a wonderful place in the middle of the city. You can go for a nice walk or run or rent a bike. It's very peaceful. If you are tight on time you can give it a miss. Nice views of the bridges over Danube specially when they light up.

The island is great for a long walk, either around the outside, where you can take in the sights of the Danube, or through the middle, where there are lots of trees, gardens and greenery to admire. It is very easy to get to, and you can catch a tram (which stops in the middle of the bridge) making it... More

Staying in Margaret Island

Neighbourhood Profile
Margaret Island
For Budapest, this island between the banks of the Danube represents a green oasis, especially during summer when its emerald spaces are much enjoyed by both locals and tourists. The gardens here are very picturesque; the flowers in full bloom give the landscape a variety of hues; the fountains add an air of freshness, making walks peaceful, joyful and romantic. A leisurely stroll will uncover a variety of sites, even the ruins of a medieval Franciscan church and convent are still visible.
