Top ways to experience Fisherman's Bastion
The area
Address
Neighbourhood: District I / Buda
The historical center to a city with a multifarious and intricate past, Buda has some of the most outstanding buildings in Europe and an enviable natural landscape with stunning views onto the Danube. Centered around the Royal Palace, it provides a glimpse into the golden years of the Austro-Hungarian empire and the lives led by the aristocracy at the time. Matthias Church, beside the palace, hosted many events attended by the royal family and was the chosen place for the coronation of Franz Josef, one of the Hungarian Habsburg kings. Having admired the palace and the church, a visit to Buda will be unforgettable by the stunning and memorable panorama over Pest offered by the seven towered Fishermen’s Bastion.

A nice place to visit with your family
An amazing place with excellent view of Budapest. The church is really glorious. You can walk around, take pictures, drink coffee, eat a nice meal and finally visit the Buda’s Labyrinth.

    Stunning City Views
The last time I was here, there was no ticket to walk the ramparts. Those days are over. Now, the upper level is ticketed and the lower level is free which means it is always swamped with people trying to get photos which give the appearance that they are all alone. (I did it too!) The views are great and the intricate white stone constructions are really beautiful. Although it was a bit annoying to no longer have easy and free access to the places I once went, it was still worth going.

    Magical at night!
Enjoyed views of Fisherman's Bastion (Halászbástya) during a visit to Budapest in early March 2023. Stunning historical landmark. Really beautiful at all parts of the day but it seems magical at night. Perfect spot to enjoy views the Hungarian Parliament Building, the river Danube, sunrise and sunset.

    Stunning views.
Such a beautiful place to visit, with amazing views. A selection of eateries ensure you won't go hungry. We only did the views, not the inside the magnificent looking church. Beware the young girl with the white doves. She will use your phone to take photos of her white doves, then ask for 10,000 huf, which we refused to pay. All in Ll though, an enjoyable visit.

    Budapest from Above
The bastion is perched high on a hill overlooking Budapest - the view is spectacular. The bastion contains an old city with medieval buildings, cobble stone streets and a beautiful church. There is an entry fee for the church as well as parking.

Good views, but at a cost
This is a viewpoint from Buda towards Pest and the views are really good. Only a part of the lookout was open on the day of our visit. Charge of HUF2400 per person is applied, which is a bit pricey as you can get similar views for free elsewhere along the castle area

    Fisherman's Bastion
We happened to visit Fisherman's Bastion on a sunny day so the sky was blue and the whole area looked stunning. Even in November there were auite a few tourists. A lovely place to walk round with some great views of the Danube.

A place where you must come and see
This place is fantastic. A very beautiful church and worth every euro spent on tickets. You must go and see it, much better than Budim and you really need to see this church. Don't miss it.

    Breathtaking
One of the most beautiful architectural buildings in Buda. Not to be missed at all, as is Mathias Church. Lovely views, ideal for a relaxed afternoon, to soak the whole atmosphere in. Can get crowded given its popularity.

    Beautiful but crowded
This is the more popular tourist area of the Buda castle district. Most can be access for free but for a small fee you can climb the stairs for a slightly less crowded view - there is a poster where you can scan a QR code to pay entry. If you don’t want to do that you don’t miss out and this is a lovely place to view the city, have a coffee and ice cream. If you want a break from the crowds, head behind the church and towards the Buddha tower which is much quieter

Beautiful place to visit. The views are amazing, we didn’t pay to go in but if it just the views and atmosphere it is more than enough. Just be prepared for the walk but there are so many options to get to Fisherman’s Bastian and the other sites around.

Queued forever for a short wall walk! I didn't research what I was buying. However, the views were amazing. As you can imagine, you get held up a lot by intagrmmers trying to get that perfect shot (eye roll)
Would have appreciated it more had the walk lasted longer than queuing for the ticket.

The views from up here are stunning. Do not pay to walk the wall (about 100m) as you can below the wall and get the same angle but about 3m lower!

The buildings are undergoing major renovations at the moment (March 2024) and I would assume that will continue for a few years. It does not detract from the overall impression of the place though.

Well worth the walk up the hill.

Visited the castle area with friends and the Fisherman’s Bastion as part of that.

Breathtaking views and walks along the walls with great photo opportunities.
Could see both sides of the city and for miles up and down the Danube.

The whole area was well kept and very clean with access to food and drinks on either side of the Fisherman’s Bastion.

Recommended for the views.

Very pretty with incredible view. Have to pay for everything up there. It’s great for pictures so try & pick a sunny day. Would recommend the gingerbread hot chocolate at the cafe it’s delicious.
