Upmarket shopping street in central Budapest
Walking through Vaci street in central Budapest during Christmas time is an event in itself. Many lights and decorations, many people from all over the world shopping. There are not just the many brand shops you can find in any European city, but also many stalls, some of them brightly illuminated. They often offer local specialities and there is an indivual creative touch to the way they have made up their stall. A pity prices are really high.

    Great Place for People-Watching
Vaci Street is a shopping hub in Budapest. Primarily for tourists, this pedestrian-only street is several blocks long consisting of shops, restaurants, cafes, and lots of people. At the one end, the stores are more expensive and exclusive. As you walk from there, the shops become less expensive and more touristy. A great place for people-watching. You are sure to be approached by salespersons trying to attract you to their establishments for the latest deals on perfumes or other products. You may also be surprised by the number of places offering Thai massages. Very interesting place.

    Nice but not amazing
Some good shops Zara, H&M etc it’s quite a basic shopping street no options for anyone plus sized. It’s a nice little street to take a walk on if you have some extra time and you want to do a bit of shopping but it won’t blow your mind neither are there tones of shops. Nice buildings a quaint little shopping street.

Tremendous History but Really Just a Modern Pedestrianized Shopping Street
Pedestrian Vaci Street which runs from Vorosmarty Square to Ferenciek Square has a tremendous history including being the main shopping street in Budapest since the 1800s and a symbol of "Goulash Communism" of the 1960s and 70s during which Hungary had the highest standard of living in the Eastern Bloc and had access to Western products and culture unlike the rest of Eastern Europe. Vaci Street was the first place that you could buy Levi jeans in the Eastern Bloc, and this was the location of the first McDonalds behind the Iron Curtain. However, now it is essentially a modern-day pedestrianized shopping street just like any that you would find in a major European city. It is extremely popular with tourists and enjoyable enough to stroll but really nothing that makes it unique.

    Beautiful and expensive
I visited during the day and evening, but there were no crowds as I expected. Although when I visited for the first time 7 years ago, the street was crowded with people, but now it is not. This may be due to inflation and rising prices. Vaci is an expensive street, so even before I visited it, I knew that I should not sit here in the restaurants, because unlike other places in the city, it is much more expensive here. Souvenirs and shops are also more expensive, so if you want to buy something, it will be better to do it elsewhere. But you don't have to shop or eat here to visit. You can just walk around and admire the architecture. Everywhere you turn you will see beautiful architecture. Along the street there are several small interesting alleys.

Vaci Street is the most central and tourist studded street in Budapest and in close vicinity to all the famous clubs and bars. Fashion Street and Kiraly Street form a great walking trio with Vaci Street.

Vaci Street has many shops and dining options. The franchise stores like H&M, C&A and Zara are fine as they have universal prices but I don't recommend other local stores as they overcharge with tourist prices. Even the dining options need some nitpicking. Places like Hard Rock Cafe, KFC etc. are fine but there are lots of Tourist Traps on the road as well.

One important piece of advise I want to share with everyone is to avoid the street late night. I don't mind street girls and pro girls as they are in every city but in Vaci Street, it gets very ugly. The girls approach you very aggressively and are very difficult to turn down. One lady started muttering something in Hungarian very loudly when I told her politely I was not interested, embarrassing me as there were people around. On another night, as I was returning to my Hotel, 2 middle-aged pros literally started following me. Learning from my previous experience, I didn't talk and waved from distance NO and kept walking. To my annoyance, they followed me right to Intercontinental loudly shouting HELLO, HELLO. At daytime or evening, it's all fine but I stopped going out late night to Vaci at the end of my vacation. This isn't the issue with other areas of Budapest as it's a lovely and friendly city, just avoid Vaci very late night.

This is a pedestrianised street with lots of restaurants, cafes and shops. Definitely worth wandering down at least once for souvenirs.
We went when it was really warm and had ice cream listening to some really good buskers.

Main pedestrian street with lots of restaurants, bars, shops, souvenirs. Was full of tourists and locals before, hope it will come to life again soon. Due to the one of the main touristic attraction status eating and shopping here is not the cheapest. But it is always nice to walk and enjoy this beautiful place.

This is quite a long street that goes from Vorosmarty Square to the Central Market Hall. It has some lovely shops, restaurants and cafes along it but mainly lots of tourist shops selling the same items but at different prices. If you are looking for something specific, the items get cheaper the further away from Vorosmarty Square you get. Nice for a stroll, especially after dark in December when all the fairy lights are on.

The largest shopping street and pedestrian zone, Váci utca in Budapest, is ideal for shopping. There are many luxury brand shops, restaurants and cafes on site. We would like to recommend the pedestrian zone Váci utca as one of the most beautiful sights in the city!

The ultimate shopping mall in Budapest, and all of this not far from the market hall in Budapest.
There are of course local souvenir shops, but also various shops where you can buy local products and even branded clothing.
In some shops it is easy to communicate in German, in others in English or with "hands and gestures" but everything is always in a pleasant atmosphere - at least in the shops we visited.
Various items are priced identically to what you would expect in Germany, while others are very cheap.
There are also countless ways to get something to eat here and there.
It is also possible to pay by card everywhere, and you often have the choice of choosing whether to pay in forints or euros.
