Get M4 Metro to Zsigmund Korter and then Bus 27 up to the Cidadel. The views are stunning and well worth the short trip.

It's a steep walk to the top but the views over the city are amazing. The statue is wonderful, just a shame about the amount of selfie sticks and obnoxious tourists! Worth the trek up and there is some food stalls and places to have a drink in the sunshine to reward you once you reach the summit!

A steep walk to but worth visiting for the panoramic views of Budapest and the Danube. Many beautiful statues dotted around. The walk down is lovely with plenty of resting places.

Citadel is truly spectacular, an absolute must see if you visit Budapest. Actually, I consider it to be one of Budapest's top three attractions. Also, not just Citadel itself is great, but also, being at the top of the Gellert hill, it provides a phenomenal panoramic view of Budapest. Definitely check it out.

I bet the views are amazing and the site is interesting, if you find a place to park. If you are athletic and have no trouble hiking tall hills, then there is more parking downhill. However, there is parking at the top, but only for busses and maybe a handful of cars. Parking was strict as people were getting ticketed... More

The Citadel in Budapest is worth a visit for the views over the City and the Danube River. The walk to the top from the Gellert baths has some great viewpoints with plenty of benches to rest at on the way up (if you need to!) Coming down the other side you follow winding paths amongst greenery and again will... More

Unable to view the inside but the outside of the Citadel was very impressive, with one wall left as was and covered in Bullet and Shell splashes. Would like to have looked around inside.

Thank Iain M

Staying in Gellert Hill

Neighbourhood Profile
Gellert Hill
If you want to treat your camera to some amazing scenery, Gellért Hill is a must on your itinerary. A funicular journey from the Chain Bridge along the hillsides provides a fast connection between Buda and Pest, hoisting visitors to panoramic vistas. Once on top of the hill, you’ll find the Citadel dominate the landscape with its imposing 19th century construction, a site that’s hard to keep your eyes on without being distracted by the phenomenal view over the Danube and the eight bridges crossing. Once on Gellért Hill however, one mustn’t miss the famous Gellért Baths. Budapest is renown for its thermal waters and its baths, and the Gellért Baths are housed in an impressive art nouveau structure. Its interior design, with its many mosaics, recalls the preceding relationships the city has had with healing springs and saunas, traditionally used within this neighborhood since the Ottoman Empire.
