Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Herend is very playful porcelain, which you have to like - but if you have a soft spot for it, then the shop in Budapest is of course a first-class place to go (okay: the work itself is of course hard to beat). Right next door is also a Zsolnay shop - and of course you can admire the two porcelain fountains in the square in front of it (unless you are there in winter, then they are protected from the cold). It's worth a visit, it's not cheap fun, but there's a really good selection.

If you are a lover of beautiful china, this is the place for you. The house has existed for over a century and the designs are repeated from year to year, so you can complete your service next time! Lots of plant and animal motifs in accordance with Hungarian tradition. Very acceptable prices for proven quality.

There are always new pieces coming out. This time I added three pieces to my wild and exotic animal collection of porcelain figurines. They are very beautiful.

There are at least four of these in Budapest (I went to three). The largest and best is not too far from St. Stephen's. You will not see this range of Herend porcelain anywhere else, and the prices are better than in the U.S.

There are two stores that sell directly from the iconic Herend artisan Factory. All the prices are significantly less than US prices for Herend pieces--SIGNIFICANTLY. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable about the pieces, the Herend process, and conversion rates, and tax refund info. They will ship but discourage that since the cost of shipping/insurance is expensive unless making a ginormous purchase. Delighted to have added to my Herend bunny collection. Even if you're not buying, a walk through either store is a nice way to spend a few minutes taking in Hungarian's own porcelain artistry and style.

As a Herend collector, with over 250 pieces, mostly animal figurines, a few tableware pieces, and a porcelain painting, I enjoy shopping at this Castle Hill location in Buda, and have purchased about 80% of my pieces here, at a Herend store in Pest, and at the factory store in the village of Herend, close to Papa. Herend produces high quality, hand-painted porcelain products. Most of my collection is contained in four curios, a few on fireplace mantle tops and in my office, and the painting on porcelain is hanging on a wall in my house. The majority of my pieces were purchased at prices ranging from US$250 to US$3,500. Not inexpensive, but they are very beautiful.

An advantage of buying pieces from the Herend factory and other of its stores is that when exiting Hungary, one can generally get a refund of the majority of the Value-Added-Tax (VAT), making it generally less expensive than purchasing abroad. Also, the inventory offering is the largest in the world.

I like many of the pieces, but my favourites include: 5.8” in height lion cubs, large 9.5” in height elephant, small 2” in height running rabbit, camel lying on the ground, little tiger cub, pair of ducks (I have this in all three sizes), three wise monkeys, Persian dancer with pink dress, man smoking pipe sitting while riding on donkey (large figurine), and large bear with cub between its front legs.

Looking around this nice Castle hill Herend store, I looked for interesting pieces to add to my collection. For this trip, I decided on the pair of panda bears. Last year, I bought a total of six pieces, four of which are essentially women’s jewelry made of Herend, and two larger animal figurines. Staff at this company run store are friendly, very knowledgeable about Herend products, and helpful.

The Herend factory was established in 1826 and commenced with the production of fine porcelain pieces for royalty and noble families. I’ve been to the Herend Factory and adjacent retail store about ten times, often seeking to view their newest offerings. Years ago, one of my father’s first cousins was the plant manager of the factory production.

If you like beautiful porcelain, by all means check it out. But even a tiny object was a few hundred US dollars - way out of my price range.

The Herend figurines and colors are world renowned. The prices here are significantly better than in the United States. If you just want some thing small as an example of the china you can get a 5 inch oval dish for around $80. A great keepsake.

World famous, we visited both shops in Budapest, because the new shop was a surprise to find. The smaller shop on Andrassy ut is charming with very helpful staff.
We got a small basket here, the sales lady was delightful and so nice.
Then we went to the new store, so big and amazing. The items are unbelievable.
We found another small different basket that we selected. This shop was so busy and it was fun to see what was being selected.
Of course this is Herend porcelain, world famous, hand designed that is a treasure
of talent. Yes, it is fine china, hand painted, signed and numbered. Our selections
were small but gorgeous.
A museum of its own.
