I did a one-day trip on 10 March with Zsombor Berényi as my guide. The arrangements beforehand had worked extremely well with Károly responding to my enquiries promptly and helpfully. The pickup went very smoothly and soon we were on our way. Zsombor was all a guide should be, both as a finder of birds and as a companion. In theory this wasn’t a particularly good time of the year but we saw over 60 species. The highlights for me were three lifers (displaying Great Bustards, Imperial Eagle and Saker) plus Red-Breasted Goose. But we also saw Pygmy Cormorant, Rough-legged Buzzard, White-Tailed Eagle, Crested Lark, many Hen Harriers and Great Grey Shrike. Some of the birds were some way away so Zsombor’s excellent scope was a major plus. I would unhesitatingly recommend this firm - the experience throughout was first-class. Of course a certain amount of luck helps too but the birds came as much less of a surprise to my guide than to me as the route had been very carefully chosen. A Very Good Day indeed!

Myself and my partner had a fantastic day out at Kiskunsag with Gabor from HungarianBirdwatching.com, who was a very knowledgeable and personable guide. There were many highlights during the course of the day, including Great Bustard, roosting Long-eared Owl and White-tailed Eagle, but for me, the absolute highlight was the Hen Harriers, of which we saw many and, at times, very closely. As well as the fantastic birding, the price also included a delicious packed lunch, prepared by Dr Karoly and consumed in a rural pub within the National Park, and a trip report listing all of the species we had seen during the day, which I received promptly after the trip. HugarianBirdwatching.com is a fantastic enterprise run by real enthusiasts keen to impart their knowledge of the natural history of their native country (and further afield), and offers excellent value for money. My overarching impression is that this is a real labour of love for these guys and I can't recommend them highly enough. I will definitely be using them again.

Fantastic day with Zoli in the plains of Kiskunsag. Great conversation and knowledge of the area meant the day flew by with no fewer than six new bird species for me including the majestic great bustard. We in fact found three groups of them in the end totally to 71 individuals. Zoli also knew a wooded spot for woodpeckers where I saw a Syrian woodpecker for the first time. The most surprising moment was a bittern standing next to the road in the fish pond area. Wow. Never been so close. Great day with a great guide. Cheers!

This was magical. It was a 2.5 hrs drive from Budapest to this vast grassland. Gabor was a warm and knowledgeable guide specialising in birds of prey, while Dr Karoly organised the whole trip diligently with minute details. Imagine you are in a grassland where 160,000 cranes from Scandinavian region migrate on its way to mediterranean sea. October is the right month to visit.

I spent a memorable week birding with Hungarianbirdwatching in Kiskunsag, Zemplen mountains and Hortobagy. I had used the company before for a day trip in 2018 and was confident to use them again for a longer trip. I had 2 guides during this visit , Zsombor and Sándor. Both were excellent at finding target birds to watch , and were also great company generally. I should also mention Karoly who made the arrangements for the trip. He did so very efficiently and it was a pleasure to deal with him. Overall I would highly recommend Hungarianbirdwatching if you are thinking of hiring a guide for your birding in Hungary.
