We had a brilliant afternoon with Tamas in Pusztaszer, looking for birds in several places. Tamas clearly knows the area, and we saw lots of local specialties, such as Eastern imperial eagle or Golden oriole, and early wader migrants, like Spotted redshank or Marsh sandpiper. Tamas was quick to reply to my emails, punctual and easy to get along with. He even brought snacks and cold water for us, and mosquito repellent! Thanks!

I hade a total of five trips with Tamas Vass from “Wings of Hungary” and I can say that Tamas is a brilliant ornithologist with tremendous knowledge and experience. From all these trips I had more than 20 lifers, including such birds as Imperial Eagle, Jack snipe, Great Bustard, Collared pranticole, Mediterranean gull, Little owl, Red-footed falcon and many others. I strongly recommend birdwatching trips with Tamas Vass to everyone because with him you can spend a great day in nature observing birds.

Winter is maybe not the best season to travel there, but thanks to Tamas, we saw a lot of birds. Tamas knows very well the good places to find the birds: long-eared owl (Asio otus), bearded reedling (Panurus biarmicus), red-breasted goose (Branta ruficollis), great bustard (Otis tarda), Syrian woodpecker (Dendrocopos syriacus) and other woodpeckers and many other birds... We saw thousand geese and a lot of passerine birds. Tamas pick me up in Budapest in the morning and we spend a very good day in the Kiskunsági National Park.

I booked a last minute birding tour with Tamas a few days before we arrived in Budapest, quick response over email and pick up from our accommodation on the day. The weather wasn’t on our side during our stay in Budapest but Tamas was very accommodating and tried his hardest to spot different species for us. We spent half the day birding Kiskunság National Park and thoroughly enjoyed it, ending the day with 71 species which included 9 species of raptor! He was very knowledgable of the area and the birds and I was pleased with two lifers; Syrian woodpecker and Pygmy cormorant. Other species we encountered include; Imperial and White tailed eagle, Merlin, Rough legged buzzard, Long eared owls, Great bustards, Cranes, Smew and a Red necked grebe (to name a few!) Would highly recommend and can’t wait to visit again after hearing what it’s like in the spring and summer! Anders

Tamas knows birds of Hungary! He seems to be able to name everything in sight and knows where to find those you can’t see. In the morning, he picked us up from our apartment in Budapest and brought along food for lunch. In the fall, I did not expect to see much, but Tamas dug some great birds out of the areas we visited, such as Imperial Eagle, White-tailed Eagle, Great Bustard (many), Syrian Woodpecker, Purple Heron (late), and Crested Lark among the usual suspects. He would stop and investigate any place we said “what was that?”. Very knowledgeable naturalist.
