Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

this fire tower is a must do. we timed our visit to sopron specifically to make sure we could do this tower. the cheap entrance fee is worth it though the climb is very tiny and steep - if you have mobility problems i do not recommend coming here though there are a few places where you can stop if you have to. the view from the top is amazing! worth noting we visited sopron in april and other than here there was almost nowhere open and the town was very very quiet. we got up the tower quickly and there wasn't many others there.

So there is not much more I can add that the other reviewers have not covered so I will try to provide some useful info. First this attraction is not free, I think it cost me $3 US. Second, if you CANNOT walk steps don't try this attraction. The stairwell is narrow and there many steps to the top. There is a wc at the attraction this is in the café downstairs (which is very nice and I recommend to take a glass a wine or beer and just chill for awhile). If you can make the steps, the view is excellent no only of the old town area but the city of Sopron as well. This attraction is about a 12 minute walk up from the train station just follow the main road until you reach it. The train is about 90 minutes direct from Vienna, cost $16/US/rt I though it was money well spent and had a great day visiting Sopron. English is spoken well enough and by enough people, that you will not have a language problem. Be advised that they are reluctant to take Euros in Sopron, Hungary has its own currency, but plastic is not a problem. If you found this info helpful please hit the helpful button.

Please note that the Fire Tower is closed because the city has won an EU Project for the renovation of these sites. The reconstruction of Main Square is already finished, and the Fire Tower will be ready around december 2012. Visitors cannot enter the tower until then.

We spent several days in the Sopron area and marveled at how the bustling city has modernized and at the same time has made so many refinements to its centuries old buildings and infrastructure. We last visited Sopron in 1996 to visit my wife, Agnes', birthplace and where she and her family fled from in the 1956 revolution.
Sopron is about a 1 hour drive south of Vienna and has incorporated Viennese culture and language (Austrians find the city a popular weekend destination themselves). It is also a short train ride from Vienna to central Sopron. The famous fire tower is a sight to behold. Fine restaurants and accommodations along with places to visit will make for a great itinerary. Young people do speak English and most wait staff and hotel staff are fluent and all are most friendly. Get on-line to the Sopron, Hungary visitors site and look over the attractions in and nearby.
We stayed at a new guest facility that has 4 private villas surrounding a large swimming pool and is across from a beautiful recreational lake and a 10 minute drive to central Sopron. The owners name is Attila and Andi Buzonics, a friendly young couple.
If you want to see what old Europe looked like but with fine cosmetic improvements then this is an excellent place to see it and in modern comfort.

The panoramic view is stunning, the entrance building is modern, but there is no restroom, and the whole place provides no additional experience.

If you come to Sopron (old) town center, you cannot miss this tower, you'll see it for sure. Since Sopron is pretty flat town, the tower is best opportunity to see how it looks from above. It will cost you about 4 EUR and you'll probably spend about 15 min for the visit. There are some steps to climb, but the tower is not very high. Is it worth the cost of a beer or two...? Maybe just about...

Sopron/Ödenburg`s history dates back to the Roman Empire when the City was called Scarbantia; many of ist buildings recflect the architecture of Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque and mostly artistically decorated, already 1153 Suprun has been emntioned.
Tuztorony (Fire Tower) located in the Center of town has been built in the 12th century to monitor fires detected anywhere down-town, especially 1676 when the town suffered from being almost destroyed by fire. Today you can reach the gallery around the tower via 116 in a narrow built staircase, however from top you enjpoy an outlook over the entire township.

Climb the stairs (116) and you will see the splendid view on the city of spires. The admission is not expensive, 1150HUF for an adult. When climbing the stairs look at the walls when the tower history is decribed.

Not so far from our hotel during our walk, we found this beautiful tower at a picturesque square with many restaurants and Caffé house.
