With its six columns and three figures adorning the top, this cathedral is an instantly recognizable sight. Is considered the most important place for Catholics in Lithuania. Vilnius Bell Tower in the Cathedral Square, with its bells and the clock, make you feel all the history and mystery behind. Vilnius Cathedral Square has much more hidden secrets and mysterious history than we know today. And you can feel it everywhere - starting from the Bell Tower and mysterious crypts and ending with the stunning views of Vilnius Cathedral.

The place we all know, and been so many times as residents yet never ceases to impress. The large square is designed to show where the old structures existed. The red stones represent those spots. During Christmas time a market springs up around the tree, growing more impressive and comprehensive every year. From meager beginnings, it has become a lovely Christmas market, if not enormous. The wind coming off those flat stones can be brutal though, so best avoid on the worst days.

This is a large open area with several important attractions. The cathedral dominates the area but if you look close you can find the footprints representing the human chain that advocated for independence. There is a large statue of a founding duke and, this year, there is a clock counting down the minutes to the 700th anniversary of the city. From the square you can proceed to the old town and the university.

Cathedral Square in the historical center of Vilnius at the foot of Castle Hill. The whole area includes the Cathedral of St. Stanislaus and bell tower at the cathedral.

It is one of the busiest places in the city. With many events and celebrations taking place. The weekend that I was visiting there was a marathon and a song and dance folk festival. The area has a very important status in the life of the city and embodies a symbol of all of Vilnius.

At the place where the Cathedral Square is located today, the Vilnya River carried its waters. But back in the days of Gediminas, people forced the river to go around, breaking a new channel for the river. Standing on the Cathedral Square, you can see the Gediminas Tower and the mountain of Three Crosses, visit the Cathedral and climb the bell tower of the Cathedral. And on the square at the foot of the cathedral bell tower there is an interesting point - embedded tiles with a circular inscription "stebuklas".

It promises to be a place that is a shame to miss. Regardless of whether you are a fan of ecclesiastical destinations or not, it is a church and a square that you must visit. I should note that you don't really understand the size from the photos. We are talking about a church of enormous dimensions, especially if you take into account that you are in a small city of 500 thousand houses.

The central cathedral with the relics of Saint Casimir in a pretty Hispanic-inspired chapel (see Zaragoza) which contains the relics of St Casimir. Note the ex votos on the personalized walls for suffering and healing (legs, hearts, hands, etc.)
Very recent interior and of less interest

This square in Vilnius is so beautiful that the half can be enough.

The cathedral and the clock tower alone is so nice.

Clean place.

You feel safe

Not to much people there overcrowded is not my favourite.

Benches You can relax on.

Wlak into the amusement park.

Up to Tower up in the hill or a start point for nature trip.

Restaurants close to the place.

National museum a few meter away.

You dont go to Vilnius and not visit this place then You will be sad home.

The square has a bell tower and a monument of the Grand Duke Gediminas complete with a little wolf. The square also also has the Stebuklas Miracle Tile near the bell tower - we read online that if you stand here or spin on this tile three times you can make a wish.

The cathedral is worth checking out too and they even offer crypt tours but they have to be reserved ahead of time. The cathedral is located near the Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania, Gediminas Avenue, Gediminas Tower and many more attractions of Riga.

This is the central spot of Vilnius and we passed through here often on our trip. It is a large square and it was filled with the Christmas markets and an enormous Christmas tree when we visited. It had also snowed so that made it even prettier! Lovely photo opportunities to be had!
