Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Crossing the Uzupis Bridge walk into the Uzupis, you should pay attention to the left side. On the stone wall of the river bank there is the bronze statue of the Uzupis Mermaid. This is a beautiful work created by sculptor Romas Vilciauskas in 2002.

It is said that the Mermaid's eyes have magical power that will attract you to stay here. However, I noticed that her eyes were looking up to the sky with kind of sadness. I searched as much information as I can, and couldn't find the creator's initial intention.

Don’t forget to meet the mermaid when you visit the Republic of Uzupis.

From my point of view Uzupis is the most authentic and romantic district of old Vilnius. The little Mermaid is only one small detail of this bohemian place. Walk along the river Vilnele, be sure to have a look of the inner courts that are not locked yet, do not be afraid to get as much further as possible. Some of the corners are still untouched by civilization and not destroyed by restorers. Take a dip in a totally different relaxed atmosphere of the old city. Find a small church hidden in the inner yard, visit Uzupis Angel, have a cup of coffee in a small café.

A little way from the Vilnius Cathedral Square, following the river, you’ll find the Uzupis Bridge and accompanying Mermaid. The bridge is covered in padlocks and there are number of other cool features including a swing seat attached to the underside of the bridge. A quirky little feature.

Located in the tiny republic of Uzupis area of the Vilnius old town. It is worth walking over the bridge and also visiting the 'passport control' office/shop here. Very quirky and fun to visit!

The mermaid statue along the river is very nice. I was surprised by it because I was not looking for it, and when I saw it, I was impressed because it seemed like I had surprised a mermaid by the river.

Well that’s the story anyway! If you are looking at her you may as well take the time to ha e a beer at the Barliment the pub where the artists the decided to make Uzupis a republic hold meetings and actually came up with the constitution.

A small walk into some really cold water brings you to this swing someone placed under a bridge with flowing water. The mermaid statue is on the wall with “1881” carved in Stone. The mermaid is gorgeous, looks like she was made out of bronze.

Despite this mermaid figure doesn't represent such a great attraction, it can be consider a sort of gate to Uzupis that is one of the most interesting part of Vilnius (see other reviews of Uzupis). Therefore, I surely recommend to start enjoying the visit of Uzupis from the bridge below which the mermaid stands.
