Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Very green in summer and not too overcrowded for a central avenue. There is a good shopping area, many places to stop at for a meal/drink and some parks. I recommend taking a walk towards the Cathedral square or start your journey there and take a long walk.

We walked this area twice, both times to find a restaurant. It was a nice, wide boulevard with the requisite buses, trams and pedestrians. Lots of stores and hotels here as well. Pleasant at night with flowers and streetlights.

This might explain quite a bit about Lithuanian history. The main thoroughfare in Vilnius is Gedimino Prospektas (Gediminas Avenue), named for the Lithuanian Grand Duke of the 1300's. But the street, built in the early 19th century, was initially known as St. George Avenue. During WWI, the name was changed to honor Kaiser Wilhelm; after WWI, when the Polish took over, it was Mickiewicz Street (named for the Polish poet). In 1939 it became Gediminas...for a year. In 1940, the Soviets moved in and it became Stalin Avenue. Not long after, the Nazis arrived and it was re-named Adolf Hitler Street. After WWII, the Soviets came back again and called it Lenin Ave. In 1989 the Lithuanians were able to have their street, and their country back, and so it is once again Gedimino Prospektas.

Thus is the premier shopping street in Vilnius.
A lot of good restaurants to suit all pockets.
A lot of well known international shops are there.

We walked up and down the street, and really enjoyed all the stores and mall. We actually found a supermarket in there, as well as a pharmacy and ATM machines.

It is always nice to walk through almost all Gediminas Avenue on a weekend since there are many, but not too many, people and you can feel the summer vibe. Many places to shop, eat and drink.

I ventured out multiple times to get something light to eat and do a little shopping. Went to a spa on one of the side streets.

On this particular Sunday morning there was very little activity and most everything was closed. However it was still nice to walk and window shop. I can only imagine what it would be on a busy day. Great shops and cafe's line this wide beautiful boulevard and it is easy to see why it is a hub of activity in Vilnius. The time you spend here depends on what you plan to do. You could spend a whole day or evening.
