About
If you’re tired from exploring the museums and traipsing up and down Vallimägi hill, the best place to take the weight off your feet is Rakvere’s central square, which was constructed in 2004. Kids will have fun running around on the bumps and other features and riding the toy animals. The contemporary bus pavilion, the yellow domes in the square and the fountain create a modern and interesting atmosphere.Did you know…?*The central square in Rakvere has been home to a sculpture dedicated to honorary citizen Arvo Pärt entitled 'Young man on bicycle listening to music' since 11 September 2010

We came across this cute town center on our walk around Rakvere. You can sit and take a rest. Great place to people watch.

The most important sculpture in Rakvere is neglected by Tripadvisor!!!! There is in Tripadvisor a special tag for the Taurus sculpture located on the top of hill. I do not know, what special this bull did for Rakvere and for Estonia and for mankind. But I do know, what Arvo Part did for Estonia and for mankind. He was excellent composer and famous Estonian composer. The sculpture "Boy with bicycle listening radio" is devoted to him. He spent his childhood in Rakvere and was used to listen radio from the speaker, located in the city square. Even the sculpture is small, it is worthwhile to visit Rakvere to see this sculpture. I expect that humanity, culture and mankind are important than fortresses, exhibiting war and destroying, and grandfathers of sausages.

This city one the most greatest and gorgeous places I have ever visited in Estonia. Simply I fell in love with Rakvere and I guess that I was the first Azerbaijani who visited this small city 💕👌

I really dislike the cobbled surface of this square and resent it replacing something much more authentically Estonian, a market place which operated into the early 21st century. I find the cobbles difficult to walk on and can imagine many kids falling over with skinned knees. There's an interesting water feature with sprays. The statue of composer Arvo Pärt, who grew up in this town, standing in knee pants with his bicycle maybe 70 years ago is good, but the loudspeaker which used to accompany him and give purpose to the boy with the bike has disappeared. The tourist bureau clerk did not know what had happened to the loudspeaker when I asked.

A town square should be crowded with people and activities but this one attracts people only when a special event is on there.

And the photo currently here is not of the town square itself but an adjacent city promenade with seats and noticeboards. Note how many people have gathered for this photo!

Rakvere is a rather small town with 15,000 people. It's calm and kind of slow-paced and that's what this square represents pretty well. Just the right place where to stroll towards one of the comfortable benches, put your legs up and read a book while watching the time go by. And you'll see that in this town, it really does not fly...
In addition, yellow fountain "hats" and sculpture of world famous composer Arvo Pärt add a modern touch. There's also restaurants "Turuplatz" and "Admiral" on the square in case you're hungry.

We visited in september and that might be the reason there wasn't much to see. We were hoping to see maybe cafe terass or something else to enjoy. At the time we visited there was nothing more than a weird fountain in the middle of the square.

Upgraded and looking very nice. Interesting sculptures and a great place for people to sit down and rest after a shopping spree in the many shops surrounding the square.

Rakvere's Central Square is world-famous by city's Christmas trees - if you getting there during Christmas time, you will probably see something very innovative :)

It is a nice town and square. It has a different Christmas tree every year and the fun fact is that every sculpture or place has a story behind it.
