Kalma is a public sauna of the old type, somewhat comparable to Arla and Kotinharju in Helsinki, though not that clean. Entry is 9 euro and you can rent a towel and buy a plastic seating mat (advisable as the sauna banks are hot) for little money. They also sell beverages and have a good collection of vihta (branches of... More

This place is authentic public sauna. Lot's of Russian decent locals who eat and relax there. Main sauna is pretty hot. Steam sauna was almost unused. Cheap snacks and beer though the admission is 10 euros.

Are you a tourist? Here's what you need to know: The price of a towel and a seating mat are not included, so be sure to buy them (not expensive, maybe 1 Euro each). I was visiting from a cruise ship and stayed here for about 45 minutes. Someone from the Chado tea shop said we should check this out,... More

Kalma Saun is very much a place for locals but foreigners like myself seem quite welcome. Its a very hot, wood-fired sauna so I would recommend bringing a sauna hat for comfort; most of the locals wear them (and of course nothing else). You can buy a beer at the bar for €1.90 or bring your own. I suggest you... More

In a building built during the first Estonian republic, 1928, you will find a place where locals (and few tourists mainly from Russia) enjoy the escape from the harsh weather. During the sauna session there are rooms where you can eat and drink your own stuff, or buy here snacks, beers, etc. Surprisingly, there is also a smoking room.

Traditional public sauna with whisking and quite many locals having zakuska and staying at the sauna for many hours. Wood heated stove in the men's side. Cheap drinks served (also own beers and ciders allowed).

Having experienced Finnish saunas over 10 years ago and keeping great memories of it, I wanted to relive the experience in neighbouring Estonia. Although I didn't use the birch branches to flagellate, I had a great time! Start a conversation and you'll find people are happy to try and communicate in English to tell you all about the sauna traditions.... More
