- 7wonders1000placesHayward, California67 contributionsSensory overload at the Lennusadam Seaplane HarbourA delightful, well executed and organized exhibition/museum about the military and naval maritime history of Estonia. The impressive complex is huge and one could easily spend hours navigating and reading information in the languages of Estonian, English, and Russian. Pretty cool experience going inside a submarine, shooting down an aircraft, flying a simulator vintage plane, lots of sensory and interactive activities, and loved the display of model ships. Definitely Tallinn’s signature attraction and my top choice museum out of the dozen or so museums I got to visit in Tallinn.Visited December 2022Travelled with familyWritten 27 December 2022
- Laura R1 contributionGo for it!It is a modern museum. The most impressive experience, of course, is visiting the submarine, but the rest exposition gives the proper context. There are some interactive tasks for children. Don't forget to go outside the main building to visit a big ship, which also is included in the tour. The building of the museum also is special.Visited December 2022Written 13 January 2023
- Ashlie EDarwin, Australia46 contributionsAppealing to a wide range of ages and interestsThis was my husband's pick so I wasn't sure what to expect, but really enjoyed our time at this museum. We perhaps spent a little too much time reading all of the boards describing the different boats and buoys hanging from the roof when we first entered, but soon found ourselves in a museum with many immersive games and experiences that could entertain a wide range of ages. We spent almost two hours there and only left because it was closing, we easily could have spent another hour.Visited December 2022Travelled as a coupleWritten 17 January 2023
- Scott ShawCarrickfergus, United Kingdom17 contributionsMust see when in TallinnThis is a real treat when visiting Tallinn. Inside a converted Seaplane Hangar, there are dozens and dozens of various types of maritime transport vehicles. Tallinn’s impact through war times and the weapons used can be held inside the museum. Combine this with Sur Toll Ice Breaker outside, do not miss this!Visited December 2022Travelled soloWritten 4 February 2023
- Živilė VKaunas County, Lithuania33 contributionsInteresting museumOne of the best museum in Tallinn. There are a lot of things to see. You can test yourself by playing different simulators. You can go into submarine, fly a seaplane on a flight simulator or take your picture in a navy uniform.Visited February 2023Written 23 February 2023

The way it has been thought is brilliant, makes it a real great destination while visiting Tallin! - Sonja MHove, United Kingdom708 contributionsSubmarines, boats and seaplanes it has them allThe museum is bus ride away from the city centre , the 73 from opposite Fat Margaret's tower gets you there in just under 10 minutes. Once there you are in for a treat. Anyone who has the slightest interest in things nautical will be in for a treat. The main exhibit is of course the Lembit. There are also craft from all areas of Estonian nautical pastimes including ice yachts and an Ice breaker. When we were there a special section of Venice brough that city to life. A must do place , when in Tallinn.Visited July 2023Written 9 July 2023
- Paul M125 contributionsWhat a wonderful placeBrought here by the dotto train. The driver (assume he is a fan) gave us a comprehensive history of the boats outside then toodvus inside to see the exhibits. A wonderful place where so much more time needs to be spent!Visited July 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 13 July 2023
- AAleRSaint John, Canada406 contributionsYou must go hereYou must go here! What a great facility. The displays are superb and interactive. The history of the buildings' renovation, the various maritime items on display, and interactive activities makes for a superb way to spend 3 hours. The visit to the sub, torpedo display and sea mines highlight the technology of the WW times. The visit is educational and fun. You will spend more time here than you budget for if you are a multi-venue sightseeing day trip.Visited July 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 17 July 2023

A great place to visit for a few hours during your trip to Tallinn. The museum is located on the sea-side within a restored old hangar. The displays are interesting with the crown jewel being the Lembit submarine, which you can explore from the inside with great audio guides located inside the submarine.

Interesting museum. Not usually the sort I’d head for but my other half wanted to go into the Lembit submarine. It’s a well organized museum with lots of historical information. What’s also impressive is the redevelopment of the building.

15€ entry is quite a lot, but was really interesting. Got to go inside an actual submarine, and a lot of other exhibits that were well explained. Good for 2-3 hours, and also had a good café

Very interesting museum and covered ancient settlers to present day. Nautical exhibits from ancient times to present. Many interactive activities for kids to experience. A bit pricey as Adult tickets were 15€ each ( no discount for seniors or students)

Great museum accessible from Tallinn’s old town. Lots of interactive exhibits and the Audio guide is well worth getting. Going inside the submarine and other boats outside in the harbour is especially interesting.

Superb maritime museum with pre ww2 British built submarine as the centre piece. Lots of interactive elements to learn about the military history and modern sea faring. Lots of exhibits, which mix military with more benign forms of sailing. Fun for kids as well as lots to read and interact with if you are an adult.
The mega submarine is a stunning site and to walk around it and then go inside is very cool. Fascinating history from being British built before the war for Estonia and ending up in ww2 with the Germans and later the communist Russians. Stunning use of the seaplane hanger, with sea plane hanging from the ceiling!
Walk around outside and board a series of military fast boats. Hop on and off bus goes here but not too bad a trek on good paths from the old town if you want to burn some calories. Excellent value for money. Nice cafe and gift shop and clean toilets. Very well done.

A great exhibition with lots of interactive bits for children and adults. We also included the interiors of the two boats in the harbour, which were worth visiting. The highlights were the submarine in the main hanger and the ice breaker in the harbour, which both offered a lot of insight into the history. The hanger itself is also very interesting and the cat walk on the second floor gives a great view of the boats and exhibitions below. There is also a fun play park for children outside.

Bus Number 73 will take you to the entrance of the museum or you an easily take a taxi or bolt/Uber to the museum.
It’s £15 per adult to enter the museum but it’s completely worth it as you could easily spend 2-3 hours here. You’re unable to purchase tickets online, but you can buy them at the ticket desk upon arrival and no reservation is required.
The museum is spread out over three huge hangars and has low lighting with multiple levels. It’s very informative as they divulge all the nautical history in Estonia and surrounding countries. There’s a good mix of interactive exhibits (flight simulator, shooting game), so it will keep the kids interested! It was pleasant surprise that they have a Lembit Submarine which you can explore inside and out.
They have a small cafe on site offering snacks and drinks, but no food or drinks are allowed inside the exhibition.
Overall, an extensive museum which is well worth the money and fun for adults and children.

Anyone knows the difference between the full priced ticket and the other 6 euros one?
Also is the large hanging ship in the public area or not?
Thanks.
SeaplaneHarbour
Estonia
Dear visitor,
The adult ticket (14€) includes Seaplane Harbour main exhibiton ticket + temporary exhibition (the Hangar + museum ships "Suur Tõll" & "Valvas")
The 6€ ticket is a ticket to visit the museum ships ( "Suur Tõll" & "Valvas") outside behind the Hangar.
The Submarine "Lembit" is part of the inside exhibition. You would need the full priced ticket to visit the submarine and other exhibits.

We were planning on visiting the museum on our last day in Tallinn before our ferry to Helsinki, However as we were planning on going straight to the ferry terminal after visiting the museum we would have a medium sized suitcase with us.
Is there anywhere to store luggage / if not, are we allowed to have a suitcase with us while we visit
Many thanks
