About
Located in an old wooden building in the heart of Tartu’s Old Town, the Toy Museum transports its adult visitors back to their most joyous childhood days and offers children plenty to see and do. The permanent exhibit displays toys that children in Estonia have played with throughout the ages. The display also includes artist-made dolls, souvenir dolls from around the globe and traditional Finno-Ugric toys. The museum has play and workshop rooms, and the exhibit rooms also offer plenty to keep one busy. Alternating exhibits and children’s activities are organized at the museum. In Theatre House there is a theatre stage, Children’s Studio, and dollhouse museum. Theatre House is a unique theatre which gets its inspiration from the Toy Museum, childhood, games and memories. Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A nice museum, brings back memories when you see the toys you had in your childhood :) It's quite small, it took us about 30 minutes to go through. A lot of dolls, several board games you can play, a small playroom for kids. Worth a visit if you have a spare hour but not necessarily a must in Tartu.

It will definitely be interesting for parents to look for their toys.
Hopefully the whole thing will increase even more, because I didn't find any of my dolls, probably the selection of dolls was quite large back then.
The child had also interesting time there, he thought that the children back of the old times had more interesting games.
I would invite everyone who has old toys at home to donate them to the museum. There were also newer toys and playrooms for smaller ones which are a good idea.

I've been here a couple of times with my family. Every member of the family finds something interesting here. I love the toys from my childhood. Kids love a play-and-workshop room.

After lots of very serious site seeing in Estonia, this is very welcome relief. The more serious side is the huge gulf between the toys of the wealthy and those of the agrarian workers. After that it's fascinating looking at the development of toys over the decades, right up to the end of the last century (when electronics took over ?). For the older ones amongst us: a number of personal reminders and "oohs and aahs" .

In some respect, this is nice, but: I had the feeling that it is more interesting to locals as they are able to identify several items which are on exhibit - as a perfect stranger it was difficult to make some sense out of most items. Yet, it was still interesting to visit and to see how locals were responding to the items shown.

I had a date there and we both loved it. Really liked the interactive parts where you could play some games. Because it's so big, we didn't go to the other building but I remember that one from my childhood. I recommend to take some time to visit it.

Very unique experience, toy history makes you remember things about your childhood and that is one good reason to visit the museum. I never thought seeing old toys can bring up so many interesting feelings. Of course kids have fun at this museum, but not quite as much as grownups, especially if you meet toys that used to mean something in your life. My daughter loved the museum too, it was a bit exhausting with a lot of halls and activities, so plan ahead. It’s a great place for all ages, and it probably has something to surprise every visitor.

A very large exposition full of toys both old and new. This ticket also includes a free visit to the puppet theatre museum. It was very fun to look at all of these toys in display.

We visit it each time when we are in Tartu. Its very interesting and its never boring there. There is kids playroom also in top floor. Nice family attraction and for parents it's rather nostalgic to see the toys we used to have 😊
