Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I wouldn’t say Kipsala is a must do when in Riga but if you’ve got time left after seeing the main sights of this beautiful city, it’s a pleasant add on. My interest was in seeing the old wooden houses and the Zanis Lipkes Memorial, as well as the alternative views you get from Kipsala, looking back across to
the old city spires. There are plenty of motorised options for getting there but the walk over the Akmens Tilts (Bridge) is a delightful one. Kipsala was formerly an island of fisherman but has become gentrified in recent times and is now a desirable neighbourhood. As a result, the architecture is an eclectic mix of renovated timber houses and more recently constructed villas, alongside an Exhibition Centre and University. My visit was on a wet, late September day so the beach wasn’t a lure, but there’s a cute little marina to admire and I also really enjoyed lunch at restaurant ’ Fabrikas’, particularly as its floating pontoon was still in operation. If it isn’t, this former gypsum factory is still a very attractive and smart dining option. The Lipkes Memorial is a tiny wooden hut museum dedicated to Zanis Lipkes, a Kipsala docker who risked his life during WWII to save those of 50 or so jews, some of whom he hid in a bunker on this site. It’s a worthy and moving tribute, free to enter, donations anticipated, closed Mondays.

You can get a real good idea for new and old wealth in Riga, when you stroll along the shores of river Daugava on Kipsala island. See wooden houses and sheds, partly abandoned and partly refurbished along with modern newly build lofts in old industrial place. Enjoy the panoramic view to old town of Riga with its towers as well as Riga's harbour. Surprisingly we only found one restaurant on that location.

Kipsala is a good place in the middle of Riga from where You can get nice views to Riga. You can easily get there by bus or trolleybus. The biggest buildings are Riga Technical university, Exhibition center BT1, shopping center Olimpia. The highest building is Swedbank. If You can get somehow to the top floor of Swedbank, then You can get exclusive views to Riga. If not, You can try to get on the top floor of Islande hotel. There is a restaurant as well. Another quite famous places to eat on Kipsala are - "Black munks" and "Ostas skati". "Black munks" are closer to the traffic, and more expensive. It will take some 30 min by foot till "Ostas skati", but, maybe, it will be worth of it!?

The houses on Kipsala are beautiful, some run down and some done up. The island is undergoing gentrification, but the facilities are not yet geared up for tourists. It is interesting and creepy to walk around the island - when we went it was deserted which made it quite cool. There's one restaurant which is expensive but nice.

I would not call it a beach, it is rather a park. If you want a beach go to Jurmala. However it is relaxing and a real nice place for a stroll. I would recommend also walking on the Vansu bridge in addition to the park on the island. The views are really rewarding.

We just loved our sunny sunday late morning here, our only time a bit out of the city on this trip, between beautiful houses and appartments, river views everywhere, some greenery, nice people.... Perhaps we wouldn't have liked it on a cold rainy windy day....

Kipsala is very nice and cozy area with small wooden houses, nice parks and beautiful view of old town of Riga and also view of industrial part. It's very nice place to take slow and relaxed walk alongside river. Buildings there are old and new but there are no real contrast as architecture goes along really well. AB dambis also is a must-see with it's stunning panoramic view.

I have been on Kipsala on the 22th March, we’re the sun was without any cloud.
It was lovely then and I did a walk through the little streets, the promenade.
You can have a good look at the woodhouses and enjoy a little bit of peace.
So Kipsala should be visited but rather when the weather is nice then it’s very nice and relaxing walking there! :)
Ps: from the central station or near CENTRAL MARKET you can take bus number 9 To Kipsala, it takes some 20 Minutes.

On any warm, sunny day, head to Kipsala for a relaxing time on the 'beach' right in the heart of Riga. Wonderful atmosphere with volleyball and other activities or just lay around in the sunshine, enjoying the view of old town across the river. Food and drinks are sold from little kiosks or visit the Central Market 'centraltirgus' first to create your own picnic.
