Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Excellent performance and staging of a rare ballet (the Fountain of Bakhchisarai) and a good performance of an operetta (The Merry Widow) in a lovely opera house.

This is a grand and beautiful building, located near the Freedom monument.
Unfortunately, there were no operas playing nor tours during out visit, so we could just admire the building's lovely exterior from the nearby park.

The Opera building can be found at the side of the Pilsetas Canal and not far from the Freedom Monument. It has a grand, classical style with several halls, the largest of which seats nearly 1000 people. It dates from 1863. Both opera and ballet are performed here. Very impressive indeed!

A very nice looking building which fits in with the surrounding area. Right next to the main tram stops. There are guided tours but you will have to prebook on the internet.

Such a good evening for such a reasonable ticket price! The staff were delightful; the acoustics to me are very good; sight lines really good and the ballet we saw was a showcase for the excellent orchestra. In fact the applause for the “band” was the biggest of the night. Lovely to be amongst such an appreciative audience of locals who have a passion for the place and have every right to be very proud of this place.

It uses the repertory approach whereby a week can have 5 different performances which is very good for visitors.

We watched the opera Aida and were very satisfied. The production is just wonderful. Colorful and stylish decorations and costumes, gorgeous voices. If I visited Riga more often, I would definitely go to all the performances. The next time I come to Riga, I will definitely go to the Opera again.

We have visited many times at this historic Opera House originally built in 1863. Riga is so easily accessed from Helsinki and the ticket prices are just 1/3 of the prices of the Helsinki National Opera.

The stunning Great Hall seats 952 people. We have always booked Dress Circle seats which have quite often felt cramped. This time we opted for the 1st balcony. The 1st-row seats in the central part had excellent visibility and good legroom.

The staging and the performance were stunning.

Went to see the Giselle performance and it was spectacular. The inside of the building is beautiful, and the staff were helpful.

We attended the premiere of Jenufa in this classic, majestic building and it was a memorable experience. The opera itself was grand, well-performed and with Creative and innovative scenografy - all of which were underscored by the elegant building and excellent acoustics. Efficient and free wardrobe at each of the three levels, polite bar service and reasonably priced tickets. Also from the outside this theater is a joy for the eye and beautifully located in the park along the old Riga mote.
