I visited this open air museum with my boyfriend in December 2016. It was one of the best activities we had in Riga! The traditional wooden houses were gorgeous. All was covered in snow and had a fairy tale atmosphere :) We were welcomed by an old lady in one of the houses and had the chance to warm a... More

We took the No. 1 bus from the centre of Riga, and we were not disappointed by this museum. Although it was a cold autumn, the buildings and the grounds were fascinating. Only a limited number of houses were open, had they all been it would have taken more than an afternoon to visit. Don't leave without visiting the roadside... More

This place is great in good weather as we had. We didn't get to see everything as it's too huge. But what we did see was interesting; there is English information in some of the buildings. Whilst there are staff outside many as well in traditional costume, I doubt they speak much English. We ate on the on-site restaurant and... More

Nice place to have a walk and get insight into living conditions hundred years ago. Relaxing pine forest and lake Juglas are good preconditions for good memories.

A tour of this open air museum just outside of Riga was an "optional" tour for our group which means we had to pay extra to go. We did & was disappointed. I guess it's mainly because we were not informed prior that a lot of "houses" or "buildings" were closed for the season! Sure there were others which were... More

If the weather is good and you want to go where not all the tourists in Riga go, the open air museum is a great place to spend a few hours away from the city center of Riga. It is easy accessible by bus - app. a 40 min.'s ride from downtown Riga. It is interesting to get an idea... More

A historical open air museum that features buildings/dwellings/farms/church from Latvia's past. Interesting to tour the buildings and imagine whole multi-generation families sharing one house. Farm houses similar to the early American farm houses of the 1800's in the Midwest. Interesting if you like history.

Pleasantly surprised by the Latvian Ethnographic Open Air Museum which is located a short bus ride or tram and bus ride from Riga. Located in an expansive forest, this museum which is inexpensive to enter depicts housing and rural life from all four regions of Latvia using real dismantled and reconstructed dwellings. Dwellings range from churches, barns, houses, fishing net... More

I visited the museum as an optional day trip during my tour of the Baltics. Having visited other Ethnographic Museums I thought I would see more staff in period dress and my travel material indicated I would see many old homes and cottages, actors dressed in old Latvian outfits, that there would be people dancing and playing Latvian music etc....There... Set in a huge forest about 7 miles from the city centre, the museum is a series of reconstructed wooden buildings from the 16th to 20th century. We took a taxi which was €12. The museum is €5 per person and you are given a map and left to wander the vast forest. The first building we went into was... More
