Easiest way is to catch a bus which passes fairly close to the museum entrance .. 300-400 meters. The bus at this time of the year was only 1 per hour so the visit must be timed. We found it interesting even though light snow was falling. Some buildings were closed .. again the time of the year I expect.

An amazing visit here! A great open air museum with typical Latvian buildings with a few people in traditional clothes selling some stuff or doing some animation. All reachable by just walking in the woods from building to building in a route you like. The museum is somewhat out of the City center, we went there by taxi but I... More

Museum established at 1924th and reflect traditions of European open air museums. The museum is located on opposite Riga the shore of the lake on 85 hectares of the sparse and sunny forest. Museum in more 100 buildings reveals the cultural heritage, the work and the aesthetic world of peoples who historically lived in Latvia from 17th century till Second... More

We easily caught the no 1 bus there and back from Riga. This was a fascinating visit. Comparible only to Beamish in the U.K. Buildings kept for historical reasons. Very beautiful setting. Lovely to get some fresh air and see how Latvia was. Loved the sleighs in the sheds. Fisherman's huts and village. We stayed till dusk and it did... More

A short trip from old town Riga. A beautiful gem. Walk through authentic buildings, churches and houses. See the hand made fences and tools. A really fun time.

Stopped off on the way back from our olympic bobsleigh ride. Mid winter, snow very well laid out on the edge of the lake. Great use of the countures of the land and very interesting selection of wooden buildings. A must see to get an idea of the culture.

If you have a sunny day, this is a good idea for a little trip. Just a few minutes by bus out of town (bus station directly in front), this little museum offers some interesting exhibits, nice hiking trails and some good photo motives. The information value is rather limited, maybe there are guided tours that offer more. Still we... More

I visited this open air museum with my boyfriend in December 2016. It was one of the best activities we had in Riga! The traditional wooden houses were gorgeous. All was covered in snow and had a fairy tale atmosphere :) We were welcomed by an old lady in one of the houses and had the chance to warm a... More

We took the No. 1 bus from the centre of Riga, and we were not disappointed by this museum. Although it was a cold autumn, the buildings and the grounds were fascinating. Only a limited number of houses were open, had they all been it would have taken more than an afternoon to visit. Don't leave without visiting the roadside... More
