The best cave I have ever been. It has a huge wow factor after the first half, once you reach the river. Its been said here before that it looks like Moria and it's true. I still have to digest it all but it might be the highlight of our trip. Huge caverns with serious amount of awesomeness. You don't... More

Picked this over the Postojna Cave, which I've read is much more touristy. No photos are allowed throughout the tour in the Skocjan caves, but that would probably enhance your experience in the caves, just admiring this unique natural phenomenon. Take the longer walk after you exit the cave at the end of the tour, great scenery along the way.

There is a classic and a new tour , we made the classic. It is 3 km, about 1,5-2 hours tour. There is a beautiful canyon underground, with a quick river. Medium fitness is needed, there are about 500 steps up and down.

Arrived to Škocjan Caves at 9:15am. First thing we did was to go to the lookout point. The view of the valley/gorge was exceptional. The ticket office opened at 9:30am and the tour started at 10am. The tour guide was knowledgable and spoke fluent English. The caves are quite fascinating and the tour took exactly 2 hours from the departure... More

Visited the caves yesterday & we were completely blown away. I would suggest doing both tours but in reverse, so do the 'new' tour first, then the classic. We were very lucky as the water levels were high, but not high enough to flood the walkways on the new tour. The caves are, in my opinion, more spectacular but smaller... More

We chose to go to this cave over the more touristic Postojna Caves but felt let down when we were told no photography was allowed indoors! We saw the images online that showed magnificently lit caverns....there was none of that. It was pleasant with a nice guide. It ended with us going to their restaurant where we encountered a very... Skocjan caves are maybe less popular than Postojina, but you can see unbelievable stuff inside.. that is a miracle of nature.. even if you are claustrophobic as I, you can go downstairs cause everything is so huge.. Of course you have restaurant there and gift shop where you can buy souvenirs but also a small crystals for 2€..

I've noticed Skocjan Unesco site when we were leaving Slovenia further on our roadtrip. Neverthless on the way back we've decided to spend 2nights in Slovenia again - just to visit both of the tours at Skocjan. It was about 100 visitors at 11am tour which were divided into two groups. We were included in the first group so the... More

It was a very different experience to walk through these. The first parts were more beautiful with more stalactite & stalagmite. Where as when we go further in, it just gets more vast with very old rocks of massive sizes. I'd recommend it to everybody. I did the shorter tour but the walk around the river too is said to... Though smaller in size than the Postojna caves, it is what-you-see-is-what-you-get landscape. Not touristic nor commercialised. The huge chambers make you feel dwarfed. A learning experience away from the crowd. Deserves its UNESCO heritage award.
