A marvel of geology and history with nature all around. Limestone formations and various weathered land features are nothing new to me as I've been to multiple such sites, but most of the ones I've been to are no longer as dynamic (as can be seen in the lowest level of the caves with River Reka actively eroding the bottom... The tour through the underground canyon was truly breathtaking. I would sincerely recommend this to anyone, even to the unfit types such as myself! Be aware that taking pictures is officially prohibited, which is a pity.

Our hostel host in Bled told us to go to the Skocjan caves instead of the Postojan ones. She recommended the Postojan ones for families with small children as there is a train inside the cave. The Skocjan caves are less crowded and absolutely amazing. There is a couple of different guided tours and we waited more than an hour... More

We were hesitating which of the caves to visit as we only had time for one, and chose the Skocjanske Cave due to its unique combination of both stalactites as well as the river below. The tour we took was around 1.5-2 hours and it involved a walk to the cave, than getting inside and going through few halls of... More

There are several interesting Karst phenomena in and around Škocjanske jame and the attitude towards visitors is much better than in more famous Postonjska jama. After visiting the underground part, do not forget to take a view from above, there is a small observing platform about 5 min walking distance from the information centre.

There were some good points and some bad points about our visit to Škocjan Caves. The tour itself was average. The caves, while not as busy as the Postojna Caves, are less impressive. It was quite disappointing to be told after we entered that the stretch that we'd just walked through was the most impressive part of the caves:(. What... More

We visited both Postojna and Skojcan in August and enjoyed the latter way more as it's less busy and touristy. If you only have time for one cave in Slovenia, we recommend Skojcan. We arrived around 1:45PM on a Sunday (after visiting Postojna), and it was not too busy. We managed to buy tickets for the 2PM underground canyon tour... More

There is a lot of walking and stairs to visit this cave, so would not be recommended for mobility challenged people. Also if you are afraid of heights, this could prove challenging for you, as well. It is cold in the cave – I had on a long-sleeved shirt and fleece, and eventually put on gloves and a windbreaker, too.... More

Definitely worth visiting. Never seen a river like this running through a cave of this size. Get like the scene in an adventure movie. The history of the early explorers in the cave is also really interesting. No photos inside.
