It is a must

If you only have one reason to go to the museum, it should be "Flowers in the garden" painted by P.S. Krøyer. The rest is plusses.

Heard about this place from others who had visited and was glad I made the effort. Art galleries and museums are plentiful but this one has it's own unique appeal. A gallery of works from artists who travelled to this (then) isolated place for inspiration and especially the light. The paintings give an insight into life at the time and... More

To me this museum is the core of Skagen, exhibiting the most famous paintings made of the artists that probably were the people responsible for making Skagen so well known. The old part of the museum is packed with paintings, making the exhibition overwhelming, but you never get tired of watching these masterpieces. The excellent guide also added a lot... More

This museum is in a lovely setting and is very simple but beautiful. The art work is absolutely breathtaking and very striking. There are huge panels of beach scenes. The awesome coast---easily accessible just a short walk behind the museum---provided an amazing vista for the artists. The sunlight was perfect and the scenes depicted in the artwork provide a realistic... More

We just LOVE these paintings! So we brought a son + wife there. And believe it or not - they also fell in love with this art. And that is despite the mess of all these paintings. The paintings are compacted together, maybe there were 20 - 30 paintings on one wall! It is difficult to enjoy when it is... More

Dear ATW000. Thank you for the visit and the nice comments. Experiencing Anchers Hus is a completely different experience, even if the paintings there hangs close as well. In 2017 we will be back with three new exhibitions that will be a lot more in the vein that you are used to: i.e. less paintings - more space :) More

Exhibition area is very small - beautiful collection but entry price is way too expensive for what you see.... like most things in this area.

Their brochure state that they have more than 9,000 objects of art in the collection. While there is not that number on display, this is a very important tributr to the Scandinavian School from the late 19th century. Beautiful portraits and scenes of life on the coast around a wonderful Skagen with its translucent light. My wife and I loved... More

Skagen Museum has a rich collection of works by the Skagen painters, and is a must on a visit to Skagen. The painters brought this little village to fame, and their works are both beautiful and moving, as well as a part of the history of this part of Denmark.

Some of the most amazing and important Danish art is in this museum. Krøyer, Ancher, Drachmann and the rest of the "Skagen painters" are on exhibit here and it is truly amazing. However - we visited the exhibition "Ophængt" and that is a disaster. The idea is to show how art was exhibited back in the 19th century salons and... More

Dear Nord1 We are well aware that opinions differ, and while the majority of response we get to Ophængt is very positive, we fully understand your point. Next year will be very different with a lot of more space around the individual works (and therefore also less art on display of course) More

I was surprised by the richness of the standing exhibit and self guided tours. Worth a visit during a stay in Skagen.
