The sound of water rushing is both refreshing and exciting .The Weiss Lütchine rushes along the whole valley while waterfalls pour themselves out in cascades for us to enjoy. Wandering along the Stroller friendly farm road through the valley gives easy and close up views of the main waterfalls.

On an 8 week 5 star trip around Europe we saw some amazing things but my two stand out memories were Lauterbrunen and Gruyere. We stayed in Interlaken and drove the 20min to Lauterbrunen. We walked from a car park in town through a waterfall strewn valley. And when the Swiss say "waterfalls" they mean "WATERFALLS!!". It was around 4km from the car to a waterfall cave we wanted to go inside and the walk was beautiful. There were a lot of people but not so many that you felt crowded. It was a dirty path with grassy hills on either side and cows roaming around with their cow bells on. To either side arose huge mountains with giant waterfalls cascading down. At the end of the 4 km walk we purchased tickets for the waterfall cave. We took the optional elevator up 200 steps worth of climb and then climbed the next 200 steps winding through the mountain. Millions of litres of water pour through so there's a bit of spray, the stairs are wet and the noise is impressive but it was just wonderfull. We then caught a bus back to Lauterbrunen and had cheese fondue. A perfect day.

What a stunning and charming stop. They have a path up to the waterfall so that you can stand behind it, which is really cool. The path up there is pretty steep, but should be manageable if you take your time. You don’t need a ton of time in your itinerary to fit in a stop here. The village is charming as well with restaurants and shops lining the main road. We were here in the fall and they hadn’t had much rain so only a couple waterfalls were really prominent, but were told in the spring after all the snow starts to melt that it is really spectacular.

Lauterbrunnen Valley is a sight to behold, and it’s worth the time and effort to walk (not drive!) down to Stechelberg. Once you’ve taken a ton of photos of all the sights to see, you can then take the bus from Stechelberg back to Lauterbrunnen.

I loved driving through the Valley. Unfortunately only had an afternoon, and I can see coming back to spend a week. You can easily bike or walk the entire valley through trails and the main road. Lots of activity for sports enthusiasts like parachuting. Timing is everything when catching the waterfalls. To catch many of them go during the runoff time of late spring as much of the falls are created by snow runoff. Best experience was going to visit the interior waterfall Trummelbach. Be prepared for heights, noise and water spray.

Those who watched Indian movies and Fantasy about Switzerland to visit, DON'T do it, it's just entertainment park not nature. Full of greedy hotels, no human expression of culture to see, helicopters, trains, lifts, humpty damply cows, with generators milking them.etc.seeing these mountains suffer my mountains in the beautiful valleys of Gilgit and baltistan cry!!

Our fourth of July weekend trip took us to Lauterbrunen. In all honesty we did not spend much time in the valley, but just the drive through and the view of the valley from the ground, and then from the lift to Murren was pretty unforgettable. Everywhere you looked there was a waterfall. Some very impressive at about 500 feet. We spent our days on top of the cliffs in the town of Murren and above.

We took the train from Lucerne to Lauderburn and it’s simple and easy to do. Don’t be afraid to do it at all. The picture is of the Falls and it was a slight walk from the train station. Public transportation in Switzerland is amazingly simple and can get you many many places you need to go, and this is one of the most unbelievably beautiful stops that you need to make when you go to Switzerland.

Post Card Perfect View. A scenic sight from all angles. the town is quiet, quaint and picture perfect. An hour of stroll thru the main road leading to the waterfall is quite a hike but looking from afar is beautiful.

Being December there were not to many flowing waterfalls, but the magnificent, snowy hike the length of the Lauterbrunnen Valley was breathtaking. Starting in the town of Lauterbrunnen, following the Weisse Lutchine River, past Staubach Falls and quaint Swiss residences, passing (closed for winter) Trummelbach Falls, spotting glaciers high in the surrounding Alps, and crossing picturesque bridges was all a winter-wonderland magical hike. Truly the most beautiful, and memorable, place on earth!!

Hi, what is the weather from May 25 through June 2 in Lucerne/ Interlaken area going to be like, as we are booked for a trip to Switzerland?
I have booked a place for 3 nights in Lucerne and I am booked for another two nights in Interlaken, can you please suggest what I can reasonably plan for during these days in the region?
Lastly, I am planning to rent a car upon arrival in Zurich and keep the car for a week to travel at my own pace and do teh sightseeing. Any suggestions to this plan?
Thanks,
Ashok

We will be staying for several days in Osco (May, 2020). Thought we would travel to Interlaken (we will have a car) then maybe to the Lauterbrunnen Valley. What would you recommend regarding transportation, overnight stays, etc. Looks like a nice place to spend a few days. Thanks

The trains are very expensive so a car will be very beneficial. If you stay in Interlaken, its only a 20 minute drive to Laterbrunnen, so I recommend staying in Interlaken. There isn’t much in the valley of the waterfalls, aside from a few small cafes and some amazing hiking.

My friends and I are going to Grindelwald in January. I was thinking of visiting Lauterbrunnen one of the days but I realised that some places are closed during winter. Is there any suggestions for things to visit / things to do in Lauterbrunnen for a day trip? Appreciates~

You have to visit Murren which sits on the Lauterbrunnen shelf. No traffic allowed up there. You take a sky chair then a train to reach there. Another site of one of the James Bond movies. View of the area is awesome.

Visiting Lauterbrunnen December 23-24. I understand Aare Gorge and the mountain falls are not accessible that time of year, closing in November and not opening again until April. Is this correct information? We’re staying at the Staubbach. If hiking is limited, think I’ll need snow boots or will adding some crampons to my Uggs suffice?

In December, sure you will need full winter kit. Switzerland does get a bit of snow in the winter!! Lauterbrunnen is the main centre for all the surrounding ski resorts and is approx 5000 ft above sea level. We were there in September and snow was still on the upper peaks (Jungfrau at 11000 ft)

Train, train, train. The Swiss railway (in fact the whole transport system) is superb. Everything is interlinked, nothing is late and all very comfortable. No litter or grafiti. You would not believe that public transportcan be that good. UK government take note

Hi
Anyone know if we can take bikes on the cable car from lauterbrunnen to grutschalp? And also from grimmelwald to stechelberg?
Thanks.
Written 13 July 2019
I think Yes I saw a lot of people biking in there and they have bike stands in the Train too :)

Two ways. 5 mins on Bus to Strechelberg then cable car. Or cable car from Lauterbrunnen opposite train station as you come into town then short train ride. Nice cafe 1/2 way up. Good cafe at the Bellevue Hotel in Murren.
